There would not be any possible way for any disease to be contracted from a tanning unit. Most disease's such as STD's will not survive outside the body. They most certainly can not survive the cleaners used to sanitize the acrylics. It would be no different than visiting your doctor once they have sanitized and cleaned the equipment and used that equipment on you.------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation

YES It is possible to contracted disease from a tanning bed. Just as it is to contract from any contaminated surface. The cleaners used on tanning beds is only a disinfectant and Will NOT sterilize the tanning surface.Sun spot "a fungus infection" is not uncommon, some salons even carry the fungus cream lotion called Sun Spot Cream.to treat the disease. Most health departments will tell you to use booth type tanning machines, for the same reason hospitals use them for treatments, as opposed to tanning beds for hygienic reasons.Tanning booth design eliminates the contact with the lighting surface, this makes the booth design MUCH MORE hygienic to use in a public setting, you can even wear sandals to keep your feet off the flooring.

there are many types of sanitizer that will kill anything on a surface of the acrilic as well as UV exposure...sun spot is T.V caused by a fungus that grows on the scalp of the client that gets "sun Spot" and is on the SKIN of the affected clent not the bed, and is not transmitted by the surface of the bed. the cream will kill the fungus on the affected skin and head and sholders will cure the scalp. It seems that some people think tanning in a booth surounded by chicken wire and that is never cleaned and sanitized is preferable to tanning equipment maintained by professionals.

One thing that is failing to be looked at here is that many salons are not real sanitary, many salons do not clean the equipment themsleves, but expect the clients to do so (gross!) and many salons don't care....they just want to take your money. Also to consider is the fact that some tanning beds are a 'quickie income'. There may be one or 2 slapped in a beauty salon, laundry, gym, etc that nobody gives a hoot about, they just want the extra $$ it brings in, so...how sanitary do you think those units are (stand up or otherwise)?I was told of a salon in my area that several people (even one of employees) caught ring worm from the beds. Not sure if it possible, but if a bed is not sanitized properly (or at all), I would venture to say there you could catch anything excpet an 8lb. trout! Just my 2 cents worth! Chip, a disinfectant means it kills germs.Lucasol (or other simular cleaners)are the same solutions hospitals use to sanitize. If you mix your solution correctally and clean the beds well there should be no germs.I find that if people find any flaw on there skin after tanning they need something to understand it. They will question if came from the bed. The first time I ever got in a tanning bed was many years ago at a healthclub. It was full of liquid. I had no idea what the liquid was. I got back out of the bed and wiped it out. After a little while it dawned on me that it had been the sweat of the person before me. GROSS!!!!!No one at this club explained the cleaning process or even told me that I was responsible to clean the bed before I got in it. Amazingly I was not turned of from tanning for the rest of my life. But that was one incident I would wish on no one else. YUCK!!!

I think many people hear need to READ the back of a bottle of Lucasol. Do you realize that in order for it to be completely effective, you must allow the solution to sit on the bed surfaces for 10 minutes . Also, it is possible even using this technique for germs to still be present if the solution is not mixed properly. How many tanning salons do you know of that spray a bed with Lucasol, wait 10 minutes and then wipe away the excess liquid?Hope this sets the record straight about what you CAN get from an unproperly cleaned tanning unit.------------------Take A Trip To The Coast...Palm Coast Tann mike@palmcoasttann.com

I have read the back of the bottle and am well aware of how long lucasol or any other like product is soposed to set to kill germs.I also spoke with a RN at a local hospital for quit a while on this subject. She said between the solution and heat of the lamps it would be nearly impossible for these diseases to survive on the acyrlic. They key word being "nearly".
