If a client is going away on vacation and has a month package my salon policy is they can freeze it for up to 10 days one time.. This has never been a problem until yesterday when a customer asked if I could freeze her 3 month package until next summer, I told her no and explained the salon policy and needless to say she then asked if she could transfer her remaining package to her sister's name, and I did that. What would you all have done? and what is your policy?

LOL Linda......I do not transfer "club plans" unless it is a very good reason, like moving out of town, or illness. I do freeze them due to illness. I have done this on several occasions and has not been a problem.

I will freeze a pkg. due to illness or going out of town. I don't freeze for long periods of time unless their is a medical reason. I have transferred pkgs. due to pregnancy, moving out of town, and if someone has purchased visits and then decided that they were not able to tan due to a change in work schedule. I think as long as you are not taking money out of your pocket it helps sometimes to go the extra mile with your customers. Neon Beach

We will freeze packages on occassion if someone is going out of town or had some type of illness. We had a customer who was having some type of reconstructive surgery done to her breasts, and she couldn't tan for about 6 weeks. She told us about it, never once asked if we would freeze her 3 month membership, and was so happy when I told her that I would. In that situation, I kept a good customer. For pregnancy, we will freeze for 10 months. We do not transfer packages AT ALL. We once had a customer ask if she and her husband could share a monthly membership. In our salon (State regs.) you can lay once every 24 hours. She said that she would come one day and her husband the next for the entire month. Was she crazy??? They ended up both buying a package. I try to keep people happy, but there are limits!

At out salon, all of our packages are sharable, transferable, and they never expire. We have done this since the day that we opened and have never had a problem with this system. SunTouch/SalonTouch makes it very easy to do so. It also works as an advantage selling point to get clients to buy bigger packages. What we will do is first show the client around the salon, explain the different kinds of bed and stand-up's that we have, why each is different, and the benefit of each bed. We then go over our packages, showing them how they can save money, by buying more visits up front. Since most people are reluctant with buying several visits up front, we let them know that their package will never expire. It works as a great selling point. Try it, Clients appreciate it. We should know in the past 3 years our clientele has grown to over 8,000.

Another Newbie, same question plus; I'm doing a competitive analysis on pricing in my area. 5 of 6 salons (including 2 closest to me) offer "freeze" options at a cost. Can this be an Income Generator or competitive advantage for "No Cost Freeze" with valid reason. Looking for some coaching here.
