Carin posted a topic regarding eye protection a few days ago. We have customers who don't fully understand the importance of the peepers. It is crucial that your staff and customers understand the concequences they risk by not protecting their eyes.Knowing that, what do you do with the customer that never has theirs or has not bought any? Do you refuse to tan them? Do you lend them a pair? Is it safe to lend eye protection? Do you have enough on hand to lend to everyone that doesn't have them?We don't lend our eye protection for several reasons the main one being that it could result in getting a eye disease by sharing. Pink eye, etc. The peepers are the least expensive item and the most important. Your customers can afford them and should purchase them before using your tanning units. This policy will eliminate any liability on your behalf and head off a potential lawsuit if someone "blames" you for their bad vision.------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation

Nearly 4 years ago we stopped providing eyewear to clients. We posted a notice about 30 days in advance that we would be doing this for their own protection. Listed a few reasons why sharing eyewear is not safe and had not one complaint. We give our new clients a pair of View Keepers with their first visit to try them out, and after that we require them to either purchase the disposable eyewear or a pair of Sunnies. Each time a client comes in, we do require them to show us they have eyewear or have them purchase a pair of View Keepers for 50 cents.Mike------------------Take A Trip To The Coast...Palm Coast Tann mike@palmcoasttann.com

We carry several kinds of eyewear, so there is something to suit everyone! We have the winkees/viewkeepers for $.50 and also Sunnies, Peepers & Sunsets (my personal fave). We ask every client if they have their eyewear when they come in AND have everyone sign a clipboard on EVERY visit that states they were made aware of the "Eyewear is required" rule. There is no reason someone can't afford eyewear. We Do NOT lend eyewer ever (for the above stated reasons).

This is an extremely old post, but I was going back and reading the ones I missed from years before, thinking maybe there were ideas that got lost. Today, this same post is being talked about. Eyeprotection, I am with you guys, we do not allow anyone to "borrow" eyeprotection. Even though we know they are sanitized, if any sort of disease spreading would occur, they could come back and blame our salon. We require eyeprotection on every visit, if they don't have theirs, they must purchase the wink-ease for .50 a pair and they can not re-use the wink-ease. If someone buys them we date the backs and if they try to use the same ones the next day we will not let them. If they refuse to purchase them, we can not let them tan.

I provide the eyewear also, they are given at the beginning of the session and brought back at the end and we then sanitize them. I also have winkease in both standups and are given if asked to use in the bed at no cost.

Below is my view on the subject...
BTW... you are all using the "disease" word to rationalize your excuse for not wanting to go out of your way (how dare customers expect service) and provide your customers with a safe, sanitary environment! If you can't provide sanitary eyeware, how the H..L do you provide a sanitary tanning bed? The last time I looked they were a lot bigger! People leave all kinds of body fluids in tanning beds... AIDS.. Hepatatis... these make Pink Eye pale in comparison. Are you not sanitizing the Beds??? SANITIZE THE GOGGLES!!!!! SOAKING THE GOGGLES IN SANITIZING SOLUTION KILLS ALL OF THE NASTY GERMS!!! Geez people... wake up! You all sit around in here moaning about the tanning salon business, franchises, competition, etc. !!!!!PROVIDE ULTIMATE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! HELLOOOOOOOO.... We have a clear plastic open-top tank and we fill it daily with fresh sanitizing solution. We drop the dirty goggles into it and let them soak for 15 minutes or so. They are then removed and air dry on a rack. Gee... takes all of about 10 seconds per pair. Gives the bed cleaner something to do besides fold towel and clean beds. A fresh clean pair is placed on the little acrylic sign on the clean towel on the bed. We stock about 40 pairs of goggles for a 10 bed salon. Never a problem. Never a complaint. No worries about whether they have them or not. No one in Washington brings their own goggles. All salons provide them! No customer EVER, EVER, EVER walks out of our salon due to the lack of simple courtesy, common sense or lack of good old-fashioned customer service. I can't believe you people! I sure am glad our competition thinks just like you! We get comments daily about rude receptionists/salon help, poor service, poor inventory of lotions, etc. !!!!!PROVIDE ULTIMATE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!! |

I would NEVER use the goggles that a salon provides! It is disgusting. I recommend that everyone purchase their own. It is their responsibility. Your employees are still touching the eyewear when they place them on the towel next to the tent sign. No thanks! I am sure our customers appreciate the good advice we give them--purchase your own eyewear or buy winkies for $.50. I can bet that most of these people do not wear the eyewear you provide. If they pay for it themselves they tend to wear them. Of course there are no guarantees, but at least I know they purchased eyewear. That is common sense.

Your bottom feeders are the worse offenders, and your biggest theifs. Someone who truely understands tanning and understands the need for lotions and eyewear will never be a promblem. Preach teach all you want,Some just dont care and never will.
Maby a display of eye wear as large as your lotion display with signs explaining the need and benefits of owning your own eye wear would help and increase profits. Flick |
