I hope you are also wiping them off to remove any eye makeup residue, air drying really isn't sufficient.

DHGrandStand....get over it. We do what we want to do. I'm sure anyone who owns a salon is quite aware of how and when to sanitize. The simple fact remains is if SOMETHING such as pink eye were to occure, there are those people who will come back to your salon moaning and tramping. I don't provide free eyewear for my customers, I do provide specials on everything from lotion to swimsuits, you can only give so much. People have to purchase their eyeprotection, it's just easier for everyone. My clients prefer to know they are not using something that someone else has used, it's peace of mind for them. We are the only salon in our area that asks our clients to purchase their own, the others provide it and I know personally I do not use what they provide, I purchased my own. No one is complaining except for you, someone wanted to know what everyone else was doing when it comes to providing eyeprotection, no one asked for your opinion on customer servive.

I'm a cheapskate. When I first started tanning - long before I bought lotion - I wanted my own eye protection even though the place barely had any for sale. I'm amazed that customers even when you spell it out for them don't want to wear them when they get in the room anyway. But then, there are people who smoke, take drugs, drink and eat to excess even though it's not good for them. People will be people

I agree with Jo. People are F'd up all day long, come off the hot *** beach and come into a tanning salon asking "will I get cancer?" From tanning or 3 packs a day?

This is an extremely old post, but I was going back and reading the ones I missed from years before, thinking maybe there were ideas that got lost. Today, this same post is being talked about. Eyeprotection, I am with you guys, we do not allow anyone to "borrow" eyeprotection. Even though we know they are sanitized, if any sort of disease spreading would occur, they could come back and blame our salon. We require eyeprotection on every visit, if they don't have theirs, they must purchase the wink-ease for .50 a pair and they can not re-use the wink-ease. If someone buys them we date the backs and if they try to use the same ones the next day we will not let them. If they refuse to purchase them, we can not let them tan.

If the goggles are properly sanitized, which we'll have to assume they are, there shouldn't be anymore concern over catching something than lying in the tanning bed someone just used. I have yet to see anyone bring their own dishes, glasses and cutlery to a restaurant. Why? Cause we all assume that the proper steps are being taken by the operator to make things safe for us to use, why would this change because it is a tanning salon?

Exactly, we assume until we catch something...someone eats somewhere, later they feel sick to their stomachs and the first thing you know that got food poisoning from such and such resturant. All I am saying is...JUST IF something were to happen. My point being we don't put them in the rooms, we don't sit them on our counters in a jar of sanitized water. I know from previous jobs as non-management, if my co-workers could get out of doing something as small as cleaning the solution, they would do it. There is always that one chance that a lazy employee didn't do something right and bam....there ya go.

Fair enough, but what about the tanning beds, do you have clients bring in their own?
Do you bring your own utensils to the restaurant, your own sheets & towels to the hotel, your own beer mug to the bar and so on. This idea of making clients buy there own eyewear is just the manufacturers and to a certain extend, salon owners why of making a sale.

I do not take my own utensils, but I do clean them again myself...have you seen what "clean" to a resturant really is? I hate those water spots. My own sheets and my own pillows, if I know I will be spending the night, yes I do take my own towel but that is me, do others most likely they do not. Making a customer purchase their eyewear is not what we do, they choose to purchase it and many of them prefer it that way. In the beginning, did we offer goggles? Yes, we did. But when over half of our tanners purchased their own, we took the free goggles away and therefore, others must now purchase it. We do not make you purchase it from our salon by any means....not like we melt our logo into them and check to make sure they are ours everytime someone comes in. If they can get them somewhere else cheaper, then they do. But they must have their own or purchase a set before they tan. Do I know if they use them? No, but I know that I've done my part to educate them on why they need to and what could happen if they don't. There's not a chance that anyone can say I got fungus from your eye protection, and we all know that someone could see us take it straight from a sterilized bag and if one small mark shows up, it's only "the logical" way they got it, they tanned at such and such and they must not of cleaned their goggles! As far as bringing their own tanning bed, ****, if they are going to pay me to carry a bed into my salon, shhhhhh....yes I'll let 'em. But I KNOW as well as do my clients KNOW that my beds are properly sanitized. But...I thought we were talking eyeprotection...not beds and Burger King??

We are talking eye protection, (I thought an analogy would help make a point) and if your clients are confident enough to use what they believe is a sanitized tanning unit, why would the eyewear be any different. If I may say so, on a personal note, you maybe a bit of a germiphobe, not trying to insult you, but bring your own sheets?
