I believe in catering to your customers needs as much as possible. you as a salon owner want to make them feel welcomed plus want them to return to your salon again. so I ask you would you do this or anything remotely like it or are you now. whats some things you do different. ok here's what I mean and I for one like the idea. a salon in CA has a male and a female employee dressed in a waiters outfit/tuxedo and they stand outsit of the tanning room with a servers tray with a bottle of spring water and cup of sliced fruit when the customer leaves room they greet them and give them these items......what do you think?

I feel that is a bit much! I have also read about salons that put candy on the pillows and towels already in the room.I think that is great if you have the time and manpower to do that.My experience in peak season is that our salons don't have enough time to do what is necessary as it is. We have a program called "Customer Appreciation" or "Members Day" every other month. We put out candy and snacks. Our problem is this...Candy and snack wrappers on the floor, under the bed, candy stuck to the walls or beds. Same reason we don't offer body stickers) People simply don't care about leaving their trash behind and our clerks are way too busy to stop after each room to carry trash out.(If they don't have enough manners not to potty in the plants or trash cans, they certainly could care less about leaving behind trash)Some salons have their customers clean their beds after each use. We hire bed cleaners and that is all they do. ------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation

Tracie....yes I might agree to some extend that this maybe to much. but first this salon caters to high class and do's well money wise. 2nd just my opinon but I expect to give my customers as much satisfaction and service as I can and if that means putting a mint on the pillow or whatever I will. now as for the wrappers laying around yes there are those people out there that seem to miss the trash can every time but if you have bed cleaners is it really that hard for them to stop, bend down and pick it up? anyhow I'm not saying we all should serve caviar. but by doing something alittle different then most salons do you will stand out.

John,I can certainly appreciate your point of view. If its works by all means you should entertain that idea. The only problem with the wrappers and trash in the floors is our cleaners don't have the time in peak season to hunt down a trash can to throw items away. We move room to room hardly ever seeing the lobby. That leaves them with a hand full of trash to carry until they make it to the lobby. Our salons have well to do customers as well but I believe the majority wouldn't really care one way or the other as long as they get their 30 minute nap. All they want is to be pampered anyway. ------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation

Ok, here is my 2 cents worth on the previous couple of posts:We DO have trash cans in the rooms. Tracie, I know why you guys don't. If someone uses a trash can in one of our rooms for THAT reason, I will then go to a wall mount trash can. Where do your customers throw away empty bottles and packettes? We have a very small basket in each room that has Jolly Ranchers and body stickers in it.But.......I absolutely draw the line at a staff member outside the door to hand out goodies. Do you realize how much that would increase your overhead? Yikes! Also, if I were as 'well to do' as the folks this salon caters to, I would have a tanning bed in my home. Just a thought.

i've noticed, if you'll put a plain piece of paper on the wall, people will stick their stickers on it, rather than on the underside of the bed. and wastebasket or not, some people will throw their trash behind the bed anyways.

I think a lot of this boils down to things work well for salons in one area and do not for salons in other areas.Try different ideas you like, see what works best and stick with it. One thing tanning clients do seem to like is consistancy.Mike------------------Take A Trip To The Coast...Palm Coast Tann mike@palmcoasttann.com
