This system uses smart card technology to control tanning, etc. It is extremely reliable because it is not software based. It is based on actual equipment, hardware, and rugged design. Members receive cards that carry their personal information. Money is "loaded" onto the card by the computer software OR members add value to their card using the add-value machine (they insert currency and a value is loaded onto their card)
To tan or spray tan, they insert the card into a wall mounted unit. The scanner reads the card and subtracts the appropriate money/points from the card. Then, the t-max display is activited in the unit and the user sets their time up to the maximum allowed for that bed. Only one session per 24 hour period is allowed by the system.
In my salon, users could use their cards to purchase anything, including spray tans, lotions, etc. The more $ they purchased , the more bonus $ they received on their cards from the salon. They can use their free money towards anything. They could even use their card in our vending machines for lotions, etc,

The package includes 10 wall mount scan/timer units, the add-value station, software, 2 smart card readers, smart card management cards, and the MDB card reader to be used in most vending machines. You can see in the pics that the face plates of the wall mount units say versaTan. These are vinyl decals. I can have my vinyl sign company replace these with faceplates for your salon. I also have several hundred lightly used smart cards that can be cleaned and used for your salon. More units, cards can be made to suit your needs.

I changed to a slightly more flexible system. I wanted to have points programs and multiple unlim plans i could only do points plans and one unlimited plan Instead of a hardware based system, I now have a software based system. If I hadn't already switched a couple thousand of clients to the new system, I might reinstall my older system. The smart are system was basically free of glitches. My software ms7 system has had lots of bugs and issues.

I actually started this salon with the system. So I can't compare the numbers to regular hours. But I can say this... There is a wow factor on the coolness of an automated salon.
We definitely create buzz without as much advertising. And, it is awesome to go to the add-value station in the morning and take out several hundred bucks every morning (people adding money to their cards while we are unstaffed)

I'll bet the "wow" factor is significant. I was kind of hoping to hear the % increase if you had converted, rather than started it that way. I've been really curious about this concept.

The pros are obvious, but was wondering about the cons? You probably don't want to get into those if you are trying to sell your item though?

if cards get lost, no one knows how much value was on their card when it was lost (staff has to decide wether to give a customer value on faith or wether to tell them to buy a new card and value

Hey thanx for answering, that's very nice of you. Do you worry that people are using the bad lotions on your acrylics?

I think I read somewhere that if a unit was not cleaned, then they lose their privileges sfter the next person reports them? How is wear & tear on your equipment w/no real supervision? It's such a great concept, but I would worry about that.

The idea that tanning is so difficult that it requires supervision is bogus. Moreover, equipment does not wear out quicker because your 19 year old employee is not present.
