Rep Power: 0 Indiana is on a distinguished road
I recently moved to a new town, and was starting to research opening my own salon, since it seemed there were none around here, and thought there was a market. Well after a search, and asking around to a lot of people I finally found a salon to tan at, they are not in the yellow pages and off the beaten path, and no advertising, but they are new and will be sticking around it looks like, it is pretty nice new Wolf beds, and a Heartland Standup, but they only have 4 20 minute beds, and 1 stand up, and 1 48 bulb superbed, anyway, I have given up thinking about opening one at the present time, just dont have the cash right now.

Anyway, there hours aren't the greatest, and I still just want to own one for the two of us in the house who are avid tanners. What should I look for, I know I dont want a 24 bulb bed, they are just too small for me, and like I said we tan almost daily. I dont want to look at any home systems do I? The 110V beds and # of bulbs and total wattage wont wont do, right? Should I look into used, a stand up, have to go with 220V, I have read nearly every post on this board, but will brand name really make much difference for home tanning and not constant use?

Any comments or suggestions appreciated, and I look forward to all your knowledgable replies.

Buying new or used is completely up to you. If it is just for home use you would probably be better off going with used as it won't cost you as much.

Contact: Tim Waite
Citizens First National Bank @815-784-5101 or e-mail Tim.Waite@citizens1st.com

He sells used beds and should be able to help you out.

Advising you on what kind of bed to buy is like buying a car, too many variables for one right answer. It is much more personal when you will be using it at home.

What features are you looking for?
What kind of budget do you have?
Pay cash or finance?
Who will set it up and service it?
Can you make repairs yourself?
How long do you think you will own it?

In good faith, I don't think any of us could advise you properly on this. Our brains think in terms of commercial use.

If you have a distributor in your area, call them up. See if they have some repos they might be willing to let you look at. Commercial beds will last longer of course, but is it worth the extra cost for home use? If you get a great deal, of course. Will you find that great buy? Who knows? How good of a shopper are you?

Not only that... but it's difficult for salon owners to comment on what you should buy for home usage tanning when they are in the business of retail tanning equipment. Even if you are looking for a commercial grade piece of equipment, not many owners are willing to cut their own throat (their bottom line) by suggesting what you should have in your home.

My best advice is to research it thoroughly by testing different equipment and looking for a used piece of commercial equipment that has fresh lamps, starters and is in perfect working order.
