Just a quick question, and no I don't want to ruffle any feathers but I think this is an issue that needs to be addressed.Right from the start I thought this board was for salon owners, however I have become very aware that not everyone that comes here and posts is a salon owner.I have also become very aware that Bronze Star does not own a tanning salon, based on the fact that she makes this clear in her posts. However she is about to open one.So for all of us who already own salons, why are there moderators that do not own salons on this board. Owning a salon and just going to a salon are two different things.Like I said earlier I don't want to ruffle any feathers or **** anyone off, I was just wondering.

Tan-u , see in my eyes a moderator should be a so called expert on the subject, that they are moderating, but if your not a salon owner then you have no business being a moderator as far as I'm concerned.See only salon owners know how to deal with some of these problems that arise,

Tan-U & Forever...I was approached through e-mail awhile ago by Solid and asked to be a moderator. I almost said "no" right away since I am not a salon owner. I was concerned for the very reasons your are talking about. Since I am open and do not pretend to be a salon owner, I knew that it might be viewed as bad form for me to be a moderator. I answered Solid's e-mail asking what a moderator does. I do not have the original e-mail anymore or I would copy and paste it here. His response basically said that a moderator monitors for foul language, off topic posts and keeps the discussion flowing should it slow down. I figured that you didn't have to be a genius to do that... so I agreed. If Solid had told me that you had to have "X" number of years in the salon business, been trained for "XYZ" in the salon industry or whatever... I would have passed and said "no". I agree that IF this discussion board is for existing salon owners ONLY, then yes, by all means I should not be a moderator. But my understanding of this particular board was also for those getting started in the tanning salon business (one of the reason I chose to post here). When I don't particularly know the answer to a question I don't answer and leave it to those who do. There have been several occasions based on other business experiences I've had where I've been able to provide input in other areas.I apologize if anyone is truly offended that as a non-salon owner I am a moderator of this site. It really does not matter to me if I am a moderator or simply a participant. Solid said that at any time I can drop out and not be a moderator anymore with no questions asked. I did not join this site with the intention of becoming a moderator here. I joined for information.Again, if you are offended, I apologize.Laurie Quote:Originally posted by Tan-U-Too:That has crossed my mind a time or twoforever tan. In my opinion a moderator should be a person that can moderatate. That is, they should be able to keep the talk going in a fun and lively manner. This is a volunteer board and we are happy to get active people involved that can moderate regardless of their expertise in the tanning industry. Those that have expertise should jump in participate. That is where we will get the meat of the matter.Just my opinion.Michael

Maybe and opinion of someone outside of the buis. would be helpful since most of us are so busy running our salons, someone like Laurie could actually be a good source for "the other side" and since she's working on opening a salon we may actually be able to help her as well.

Bronze Star,I'm not a salon owner either but I am the operations manager of 5 salons. I feel that I am every bit as knowledgable and capable in regards to operating and managing a salon in the tanning industry as any salon owner. The only thing that keeps me from owning one is financial backing and the fact I would have to move. The company I work for saturates our market. I feel that if the moderators position is for salon educated individuals then most of your salon managers and fulltime clerks could be useful to or at least learn alot from this site.------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation

I agree to a point with Tracie, however she is involved with salons, sometimes an outside opinion can do some ood, but most of the time I look to people with experience, I'm sure noone has peed in Bronze Stars garbage can or stole a packet of lotion from herm and when things like this occur, I would rather hear from someone with experience. Now if it's just a general question i can care less who answers it.

and thats why we have tons of people to answer questions on the board! ANYONE can answer a question, not only a moderator. like bronze star was saying, moderators are here to keep it clean, and keep the conversations going.
