I purchased my salon three years ago and it was a nightmare the first year. No only did the owner lie about the existing outstanding sessions but forgot to mention that she sold a ton of gift certificates the month before I took over. I kept the name but advertised heavily that the name was the only thing that was kept the same. Good luck but be sure to look into all aspects of that business.

Heck, when I bought my salon the lady took money on the unlimited year plan the day before take over! I still honored that package, but the first year or two was very hard.
If I had it to do over, I would advertise sessions expire such a such date. Start over and do a Name change. |

I am in the middle of purchasing ownership, and would like to know how to go about this! Say someone bought a year Of tanning last month. And now that I own the salon he tans on me for free, it's not fair me nor the client if I don't except. SO how should I go about this.

If the salon is strong, then I wouldn't worry about existing packages. If those customers are happy, they will continue to buy new packages and lotions from you. You will still have customers buying packages from you. It seems to me that if prepaid packages are going to prevent cash flow, then maybe the business just wasn't doing well.
If they liked the old owners, then at least you know they will still be coming in and they can get to know you. Sell them some lotion and don't worry about it!! |

In my case the salon had run down way more than I realized. The previous owners had let it really wear out and people had left that she had on file. (which was the card file) If they are not computerized, be very careful of the data base.
But,,,,,, We changed things fairly quickly. Bought business with 5 beds, 5 yrs ago, tanned 75-80 per day then, now 13 units and tan 175-200 in peak. Now I tan as much in the off season as I did in the peak 5 yrs. ago. So It Can Be Done. But I didn't pay 60k either. _________________ Proud supporter of Don's Army Mitzi Soakin up the Sun, Tell everybody to lighten up. Rock On! I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A TANNING SALON TO PURCAHSE FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW. I HAVE MADE SEVERAL OFFERS WAY BELOW ASKING PRICE. (SAY ASKING IS $20K TO 35K) SELLERS WERE WILLING TO ACCEPT 10K. THIS MADE ME NERVOUS AND I NEVER GO THROUGH WITH THE DEAL. BOTH HAD 7-10 BEDS BUT OUTDATED AND NOT COMPUTERIZED. NOW I HAVE COME ACROSS A SALON THAT I USED TO FREQUENT THAT IS FOR SALE AND KNOW IT IS A DECENT PLACE WITH 4 BEDS (1 ULTRA BRONZ) AND MASSAGES. THEY ARE ASKING THE USUAL 35K AND AM GOING TO OFFER MY USUAL 10K. LET'S SEE WHAT HAPPENS........
