Actually I know of a place to get the workman's comp from but I found out from another business owner that prices fluctuate from one place to the next and my question was to find out where others have been getting the workmans comp from. The other questions Fred, that I asked and you overlooked to anwser was at what point does a salon need to have the insurance in tact. If it is owner operated do the owners need to have it or just when employees are on staff, and do the employees need to be full time???The third question was how are other salons paying. I would think these are intelligent questions since I am trying to be cost conscious. I have spent a lot of unnecessary money in times past for not asking questions and choose not to be so hasty in my decisions. As for bober and the others coming to my defense "thanks"I guess everyone is a little different. I try to make my questions and answers on the professional side if they come across as different to get an unprofessional answer, I guess I will have to be a bit more clearer. Thanks again everyone.QUOTE]Originally posted by Fred:Duhhhhhh,MAKE USE OF THE INTERNET!!!Goto http://www.dir.state.al.us/wc.htm Click insurance coverage.on If your curious as to how I found it, I did a search for: "alabama workers compensation insurance"Fred[/quote]------------------Tommy Lowery

Price should not fluctuate providing they allare useing same class code which is 9586.I pay roughly $1,300 a year,That is based on $150,000 of payroll for year,That does not include officer/owner which is your choice! All paid employees are covered and price of policy is determined by annual payroll,Ifmy payroll exceeds 150 I will owe at end of year or I will recieve refund at end of yearIf it indeed is lower than 150.I would strongly suggest aquiring workman comp. Otherwise you might learn the hard wayas I did when and employee got hurt at work! Some companies offer in-house financingand a reasonable monthly payment..........I have been viewing both tantalk and suntan.com for about a month now and honestly I wonder if some of you run your dayto day business operation like you talk to some people on your posts!!!!owning salons for 12 years now I have alot of positive input to offer, But yet I'M TIRING OF THE GHIBBERISH THAT GOES ON!!!!!This should be and area of help for all notcriticism......... Tommy, way up here in Pennsylvania, you would be required to have worker's comp insurance "only" if you have employees. As long as you are "owner" operated, you would not be required, nor would you be covered if you did have it. As long as you, your wife or other immediate family members work the facility, you would be exempt form the requirement and coverage. Now Alabama may be different. Cost here is pegged to the amount of payroll you have per year, $x.xx per $100 in gross pay. The state offers insurance coverage, but has a minimum premimum of $535.00, some insurance companies will be able to beat that, especially if you buy their "package".Good luck

Okay folks,I pointed Tommy to the Alabama Workers Comp web site, cause each state has their own rules, rating system, and rates. What applies in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, or Nevada, doesn't matter in Alabama. And, rules change. In 1999 / 2000, Nevada changed from the state being the only provider, to allowing insurance companies to also provide workers comp. The only way to get accurate infomation is to check with YOUR state agency. That's why I didn't waste time and effort telling you what I pay, or who I pay it to. It's meaningless since I'm in a different state than you.In Nevada tanning salons also are class 9586 (Barber Shops). Before the changeover I believe we were Beauty Salons. Also if I employed any clerical workers my rate would be different. So you also have to be careful how you list your employees duties. Therefore, what the business down the street pays is also meaningless. It took me about 2 minutes to come up with the web address for Alabama workers comp. Have you gone there yet to get accurate information???I have also found that you can download required forms from most taxing agency web sites. In this and other business matters, don't rely on what others do or tell you. Go to the source and get the facts and accurate information. That's what I pointed you to, albeit sarcastically. Sorry.Fred Quote:Originally posted by Sonshinetans:Thanks everyone for the very helpful info.I could not be as effective as possible without all the information you freely share.

This one's for Linda, a.k.a. bober96.Look lady,in the last sentence of your quoted post you talk about a professional manner. Well I don't think your post is very professional. It's not me calling names. It's not me using words that can't be completely spelled out. And I don't think I've ever done either of these things in any post, on any board, on any subject, cause I don't do it in real life. That's not me.Tommy has posted TWICE since my reply, so you're WRONG AGAIN.And contrary to what you may want to believe,BOBER96 IS STILL AN ALIAS, no matter how you try to justify it.Tommy has his information, we've just possibly shown the world the real you, and I'm gone now.Fred Quote:Originally posted by BOBER96:Fred, I just had to come back one more time. First of all, I am sure Tommy doesn't need me to defend him, but if you will notice, he hasn't posted since your reply. I sure wouldn't either if someone answered me with such a smart a** post! His question was not ignorant...it was a question!! The only stupid question is the one not asked. Salon owners come to these sites to ask questions and recieve answers, not be treated the way you treat them. Secondly, my name is not an alias jack a**!! It is my last name and the year my son was born! Duh, my name is Linda Bober! How does it feel to have someone address you with a "DUH"! But then again, you are used to that I'm sure! And No, I does not bother me that the info came from you. I didn't answer his question because I am not a CPA nor do I know anything about Alabama tax info. That is not my job...that is why I have an accountant. It is also obvious you don't care what anyone thinks of you. Look around Fred...do you see anyone else on these sites answering questions with smart a** replies? I am sure you really do have some good, worthwhile information to share, it is a shame you cannot deliver it in the professional manner around which this and other tanning sites were designed. How is using my last name an alias?I am tired of being insulted by you Fred...it is nonsense. Perhaps I was a little over the line, but I directed it at you and perhaps if you hadn't pushed me, I wouldn't have felt the need to go to that extreme. If I insulted anyone (aside from fred), I apologize.
