I found this article in the September 30, 01 issue of the Parade Magazine today. Relief For Raging Skin*Sunlight. Ultraviolet (UV) light kills the T cells in the skin that are responsible for the cell overgrowth and scaling of psoriasis. Exposure to the sun for a few minutes daily can do wonders. But don't get sunburned in the process.*UVB phototherapy. Narrowband UVB light is effective therapy for moderate to severe psoriasis (and safer than sunlight). You can receive itin some doctors' offices or, more commonly in a specialized center. Or you can buy you own "light box", learn how to use it under supervision and treat yourself at home. You'll need three treatments a week for two to three months.*PUVA. This form of phototherapy combines ultraviolet A (UVA, a special form of light) with psoralen, an oral to topical medication that makes skin more sensitive to UVA. It's a good short-term thereapy for resistant, moderate or severe psoriasis. You'll need about 25 treatments over two to three months and maintenance program of a bout 40 treatments a year. Too much PUVA can age the skin, result in freckling and most important, cause various skin cancers. Now this is just one of the treatment methods the article discussed. But I am glad to see that Parade Magazine handled UV Light in a professional manner and did not bash tanning. You should read the entire article if you would like other forms of treatment. To learn more visit www.psoriasis.org on the web.

I know that my sister suffers from psoriasis and her dermatoligist recommended tanning booths. In fact, what he recommended for her was in line with what a responsible salon would have recommended for her skin type! The 'treatments' helped her a great deal. After seeing some relief, she quit going regularly and now it has flared up again!
