The other day I was out and about doing my errands and having a generally bad day. I spent over $300 on tires for my car... it was raining... and every job contact I had made in the last several weeks had either fallen through or fizzled. So, I did what any tanning loving person would do... I went and tanned. While I was in Las Vegas a friend of mine told me about a tanning salon he found near his work, close to where I wanted to open my salon. It was time to check it out and cure my ills.I pull up to the salon and there just happens to be a "Help Wanted" sign on the door. I walk in and the first thing I notice is the wonderful smell. It is so hard to describe... but it really was a fantastic aroma! I walk to the counter where the owner is standing and he says "Can I help you..." and I say (in true Laurie form) "Perhaps its me who can help you..."To make a long story even longer... I apply for a job hoping even for something part time just to give me not only the experience but also to put to good use everything I've learned over the past 4 months. We communicate back and forth and I was offered full time work between two salons... one in New Jersey and one in Pennsylvania. I won't go into too many details out of respect for my new employer... he does read the tanning boards. But, let's just say that it is a wonderful opportunity both for myself as well as for him. I'm not guessing that someone such as myself walks into a salon every day looking for a job.Now you know the rest of the story...

Did I miss something here?????Did you not say that you were looking into opening a salon close to your new employer? Then the rest of you BOZO'S go and applaud her. I'm glad you are not working in my salon. I have one word for that... NON-COMPETE. Make every employee sign one. Did you sign one laurie? If you did, you may have to change your idea of opening a salon.[ August 17, 2001: Message edited by: Mike ]

Mike... No, at this point in time I am not going to be able to open my own salon... not for a long time. I won't go into details because it is very personal. However, if I should ever get to the point of being in the position to open a salon... I would be very respectful of my employer and would not consider opening a salon in the same area. What I said was, he opened his salon in the area where I wanted to open mine... that did not mean that I would still consider that particular location. There is a very wide area where I live where there are no tanning salons whatsoever. It would make more sense to me to pursue salon ownership in another area simply because there is so much to choose from... we are far from saturated. Anyone on this board who personally knows of my integrity knows that what I speak is truth. It is more important to me at this point in time to put my full energy into working for a salon owner and give them my complete loyalty. While I appreciate your concerns, they are unwarranted. And YES, Linda Bober and I were just discussing the "no compete" contract last night. I've signed them before and I will sign them again. Thank you everyone else who gave their blessing... I'll keep you posted!
