Question about tanning salon jobs..

I've been applying to all the local salons, but haven't been getting any where. I think it might be because I'm a guy. I know a lot about tanning, so I feel I'm qualified, but I haven't so much as gotten an interview. The one place that I want to work at is difficult to get in touch with the owner, since he barely goes to the store. One of the girls just had me write down my information. I waited a week and heard nothing. Any suggestions from the owners of the board?

This is the wrong time to be job hunting in a tanning salon -- it's the start of "off season" and most owners are cutting back on staff. I suggest you look for another summer job and apply with the salons around January.

Exactly. People come in for apps but I tell them while I will give them one, we are not hiring until November.

The place I left my info with is hiring, they have help wanted signs. I went in again today and one of the girls told me he won't hire guys.

that's discrimination the last time i checked....

we employ 3 males and 3 females

You have to make your self stand out--

It is true, we are coming out of busy season.. In April and May I was tanning 240 people per day, now it is 180-200.

Why should the owner hire you?

Anyone can read and "know a lot about tanning"

What is your sales background?

As an owner I look for 3 things..

Can you sell? What is your work ethic ( do you do things without being told ) ? Are you a clean freak?

I operate my salon on the "fire triangle" principle.. remember from school? heat, oxygen, source..

my triangle is sales, customer service and cleanliness....

if one is not happening the triangle falls and the salon will fail..

i give you credit for going in and applying. I get 20 calls a day asking if I am hiring. I tell them I do not hire anybody over the phone. I know gas is high, but I feel that it shows that if you come in you are serious about a job.
