To beat a dead horse!
I have read thread after thread inquiring what is a good complimentary product to sell in the tanning salons.
but here I go..... I have a significant amount of unused space and I am considering putting in a small 3 chair hair salon. I have already worked out the logistic issues with odors and such. My question is: Is anyone else doing this and how is it working???? Thanks for your insightful responses! |

Re: To beat a dead horse!
We had talked about that and our clients seemed to be weary of hair all over the salon. Plus, we have a nail room and a facial room and all the cost of equipment and licensing and can't keep anyone working in there. Seems to me that the type of lady that gets her license does so, so that she can work when she wants. Then they expect you to market and sell their services, and not consentrate on selling tanning. If you find a God send who wants to work and build their own business, that would be great. The other thing is, unless they are your employee, you must give them a key..... we had to throw one out because she (facialist) was coming in late at night and using our tanning beds! Sure the booth rent is good, but not sure it is worth it. I hope this helps you out.

Re: To beat a dead horse!
Around here tanning and hair salon combos are pretty common. If I were to ever do this, I would rent the space out to someone who wants to start their own salon. As a perk I would offer the renter and stylists a certain number of tans per month. They can be good advertising. The idea in the end is that both SHOULD benefit. People come in for a cut and check out the tanning salon. People at the tanning salon see the connivence off the hair salon. In the end I would run them as separate businesses but I know I dont have time to concentrate on both a tanning salon and hair salon.

Re: To beat a dead horse!
I have a tanning and nail salon and it works great for me. In my area we are not allowed to rent out space or booth rent because of the cosmetology laws. I own the salon and I have people hired to work the tanning part and i have people hired to do the nails. Having the nails really helps in the slow season to keep a steady income. Hope this helps!
