I always hold up the bills to the light IN FRONT OF THE CUSTOMER, I have the pens as well, I think just doing this in front of someone will scare them, if you have doubts than hadn it back and demand credit card, I have yet to get one, knock on wood

Pins dont work and holding the bill up to see if the that little plastic ribbon is in the bill is a pain. I got a black light system that checks any bill, credit cards, drivers lic. e.t.c. Works great!
