VITAMIN D ADVERTIZING

[HOT STUFF]

I passed a 30' billboard on one of the the most traveled freeways this morning and this is what it said,"VITAMIN DIVA". It is an ad for one of the largest tanning salon chains in the U.S. and the dominant chain in this area. Last year they had billboards that stated "GET YOUR VITAMIN D". The print was just like this with the vitamin d one color and iva another to highlight the vitamin d part. Do you think that this is a trend we are going to see in the future or do you think that the powers to be have turned a blind eye to this?

I prefer playing by the rules which are never very clear on this topic. I still just keep trying to educate through the freedom of speech. If and when an attorney can tell me I can legally do it then I will. I send links from facebook and myspace and place comments on negative articles online but that's about it so far. I do look forward to advertising it in print someday!

Last night I had a guy sent in here from his dermatologist for body acne. I honestly think (and this is why I am REALLY NOT PLEASED WITH OUR REPRESENTATION) that Dermatologists (some at least) are just "undereducated" about the whole tanning thing. They still think that we have 30min beds and think we use tanning lamps like what THEY are used to using with 50% UVB.

That "lack of knowledge" disturbs be as it tells me that there isn't enough "word on the streets" about our situation.

You can advertise ALL DAY LONG about getting Vit D, you can not make medical claims about your tanning equipment. So I think that billboard is AWSOME and just one more thing to help "turn this ship around"!!

I think you're right I just want to hear it from an attorney that has experience with the FDA. lol

Your not allowed to make health claims. This has been brought up lots before. I dont make health claims. Saying a bed helps produce Vitamin D is no more of a health claim than saying it will make you tan. They are both processes of the body when exposed to UV light. Its not a "claim", its a fact. So I do say tanning helps produce Vitamin D. Then I have articles out showing how vital Vitamin D is but I never directly link tanning to reduce colon cancer risk, etc. I let the client do the little math needed to figure out 1 + 1=2 :)

That we know of the FDA has not went after anyone for making medical claims. opinions or facts. I wish they would go after a large chain with deep pockets. After working its way through the courts with a good attorny i think it would lead to chage in FDA policy.

you are so right but why doesn't a large chain in the USA go after the FDA like fabutans did in canada.
