Conservatives play a key role

More news and notes from the congressional campaign trail:

• As reported here last Sunday, local Conservatives can hardly contain themselves over the congressional candidacy of long time gun rights activist Budd Schroeder. Schroeder and Erie County Conservative Chairman Ralph Lorigo say the effort not only injects a true conservative voice into the contest — featuring Democratic incumbent Brian Higgins and Republican nominee Dan Humiston — but will also draw new members to the Conservative Party.

“We’ll say there are two big problems in the United States — Republicans and Democrats,” Schroeder said last week.

The tiny Conservative Party, fourth in line on the New York ballot, often can determine the outcome of a close election. George Pataki, for example, would never have become governor without the Conservative vote in his 1994 victory over Mario Cuomo.

And Lorigo’s radio ads extolling Conservative themes during several recent campaigns have produced results. Conservative vote totals surpassed the Independence Party — number three on the ballot — in some recent elections.

This time, Lorigo and company hope to distribute registration forms to everyone Schroeder meets on the campaign trail.

All of this has spoiled the hopes of Republicans, who hoped Humiston (a registered Independence member) would carry three lines into an uphill battle against Higgins. And it leads Erie County GOP Chairman Jim Domagalski to lay out his conspiracy theory about the whole affair.

“It just takes votes away [from Humiston] and helps a liberal,” the chairman said.
According to Domagalski, it’s all part of the Conservative plan. Higgins enjoyed a long relationship with Conservatives while in the Assembly, but lost their backing when state Chairman Mike Long refused to back him for Congress because he favors late term abortions — a litmus test issue for Long.

So, Domagalski says the Schroeder candidacy and its potential to draw right-leaning votes from Humiston is just the local party’s way of supporting their old pal Higgins. Interestingly, Lorigo does not outright deny the charges of his Republican counterpart. He says only that Schroeder will prove a top notch spokesman for Conservative values.
And it does leave open the potential for Erie County’s Conservatives to spread their gospel, while still helping an old friend.

A friend, by the way, who labeled the Conservatives a “party in decline” when he was denied their nod in 2006.

Re: Dan Humiston Announces Run For U.S. Congress in 27th Congressional District

bump.... a note from Max to remind us another deadline is fast approaching for Dan.

If you have already contributed, on behalf of Dan's campaign, let me simply say "Thank You". We also need additional support.

This Campaign for all of us in Tanning will need around $1.0 million to $1.1 million dollars, again I will send more details to you sometime mid to late next week.

The key trigger date is June 30, 2008 for the Second Quarter filing.

I have just had the opportunity to meet with Dan and plan to update you as to why "I" think this is an important moment in time for all of us who earn our living in this Industry!

Please consider a contribution prior to Monday - 5:00p.m. and please forward on to our Industry colleagues.

Have a great weekend!

Re: Dan Humiston Announces Run For U.S. Congress in 27th Congressional District

Eileen and EZ Living: Thank you for your economic and public support.

I hope this statement by two online leaders prompts more of the online community to step up to the plate and both "spread the word" and also "contribute what you can!"

1,000 Industry people at $250.00 pledged = $250,000. 5,000 @ $50.00 each would be nice too! This should be our target.

We employ more than 500,000 people in this great Industry, seems reasonable when you look at it from that perspective.

By the way, the $25.00 and $100.00 contributions add up as well.

I am working with Dan to do the first ever online "live" interview and presentation to openly meet and discuss his candidacy with the Tanning Industry online community. Stay tuned.

This is not about O'Bama and it is not about McCain, this is about having our Industry Represented in Congress by someone we know and trust!

Have a great weekend visiting with my Mom and Dad here in good old Buffalo, NY.

Go Bills! (like Tim Russert - long suffering fan - I hope they don't become the Toronto Bills anytime soon!).

Bella loving it to, went in Lake Erie already once today.

Re: Dan Humiston Announces Run For U.S. Congress in 27th Congressional District

A note from Dan...

Hi Everyone,

My campaign for US Congress is really heating up! I’ve been to more
beer tents, parades, carnivals and fundraisers in the last month than
I have in the last ten years. My biggest campaign surprise is how
time consuming and expensive it is. I’m starting to add some staff.
In fact, Seth Henson (Greg Henson’s son) joined my campaign last week.

I’m sorry to hit everyone up again for contributions, but I have to.
Today is the last day of the quarter and I need more help.
Quarterly FEC filings are the life-blood of the campaign because
everyone uses them measure the viability of a candidate. Most people
will use my report to measure how much support I will get from the
tanning industry. My relationship with the tanning industry has
everyone talking, so I need to take advantage of every filing to show
off my industry support.

If you’ve made a contribution in the past, please make another small
$25.00 or $50.00 online contribution. If you haven’t made a
contribution I would really appreciate one today. My website is www.
humistonforcongress.com . It would be really helpful if you could
have a couple of your family members do the same; a $10.00
contribution from a few family members or employees will really make
a difference.

All contributions must be in by 11:59 pm tonight.

Thanks for all your help,

Dan

Do you have any examples of the pro-tanning legislation you intend to propose if elected, and which congresspeople will support it? Thanks, and, best of luck.

Re: Dan Humiston Announces Run For U.S. Congress in 27th Congressional District

Mr. Belvedere and Tantalk.com Supporters:

I am working with Dan to do the first ever live interview right here on Tantalk.com. and TanToday.com.

Assuming there is interest, we would like to schedule this for some time in early September. (after Labor Day).

In the interim, I am serving as a liason between Dan's campaign and the online community. Dan is focusing on meeting as many people in the 27th District as possible. (lots of barbeques, rubber chickens and parades).

As regards your direct question, I believe last year 22 states or so, introduced legislation that if passed, would definitely hurt the Tanning Salons and the clients that they serve. Had Dan been in Congress already, 22 states would have been contacted by one of their own to discuss this and in my opinion only, a lot of the issues could have been avoided and/or resolved much more quickly. I also think more can be avoided by having a Congressman that comes from "our" industry.

Dan is worthy as a 23 year Professional Tanning small businessman, that speaks for itself. He is obviously going to be pro-tanning & protecting the interests of small business people wherever and whenever the opportunity presents itself.

He is the Republican/Independent Party Candidate and is running in the most conservative District in the Greater Buffalo area. (also my home town). This is the same area that was represented by Jack Kemp (Republican and former Buffalo Bills Quarterback).

We would like to see a list of the questions and suggestions that the online community has to offer.

This is not about McCain, this is not about O'Bama -- this is about represnting Small Business & Professional Tanning! Let's help elect one of our own!

Please contribute today. Go Bills!
