starters

Do electric starters really make a big difference than regular starters more than just the fact they last longer
are they worth it

Re: starters

Don't the electronic starters cost 3 or 5 times higher than the others? I may be wrong about that, but I know they used to be quite a bit more expensive. I had always been told that the regular starters needed to be replaced with every (or was it every other?) lamp change. If the electronic starters never need to be changed except when they quit working, then I would say they are worth the added expense. I don't believe there is any difference in performance though.

Re: starters

They also reduce the black carbon build up on the ends.

All of the beds and booths I have had no more than 5 replaced over an almost 6 year period. So as far as I am concerned they are not worth the upgrade price.

Re: starters

I got a good price on some 160 watt lamps and wanted to use them in a 140 watt lamp bed. I put in electronic starters in order to fire up the lamps better because of the 140 watt ballasts driving the lamps. Absolutely no hesitation in lighten em' up.

Re: starters

I'll only buy electric starters now that we've tried them. They do light the lamps instantly.

Re: starters

I feel that they do extend the life of the lamps a bit. Maybe 20% in all apps.

Re: starters

I have electric in my highest level and they still do throw the carbon onto the lamp ends. My mid level Sunstorms use the regular starters and the ends are still perfectly white right up to the next lamp change. It's weird...

Re: starters

That's cause you are driving the living **** out of those lamps. That's just too bad when you run something like the GATE or ICON or equiv.

240V will do that to a lamp.
