Do I need buck boosters?

How do I know if I need buck boosters? I have gotten so many different answers that i am uncertain how to determine if in fact i need them. I needed them at my first salon but was told that I didn't need them at this location. What is the correct method for determining whether or not these are necessary? Please help. If i don't need them I want to sell them and get them out of my way. Thanks! :)

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

It's a MAYBE cause you need to know what the building has for electricity (voltage) compared to what the actual beds need for voltage.

If the bed needs 220 and the building is providing 240 then you need one. If the bed needs 240, then you can just wire it up.

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

Well, this salon i built from the ground up. My electricians spoke directly with Forever Tan to find out how much power each unit required. If that is the case, can i assume that they arent required? Also, if i do use them, will it make them any stronger?

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

don't ASSUME anything and unless your beds are all exactly the same thing. Pushing MORE voltage to the beds will just burn em up faster unless you are doing something REAL specific. UNDER and the lamps may not light up. HP lamps are VERY SAD if they don't get what they need in terms of voltage.

You don't want to juice a base bed. It'll just end up costing you more cause the lamps will be eaten alive as in 70hrs and the ends are black instead of NEVER getting black. (for example)

If you have a voltmeter check each room to see what's going on with the power but CHECK EACH ROOM.

Each bed should have the required voltage right on them. if not, check out the bed's website and it'll say on there.

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

Ask your electricians or learn to check yourself:

1. How much voltage coming into the building?

2. Was the space itself transformed? Some salon buildouts will use one large overall transformer to upgrade the power for the whole facility. This would make sense for a salon using all Ergoline since all of their units would generally want to be running at 235 -- which few salons have as incoming.

3. How much to each room. This can vary based on the size wire you are running (e.g. 8 gauge, 6 gauge, etc) and how far the run is - e.g. how far from the bed to the electrical box.

i do have all ergoline equipment but they worked very closely with forever tan so ill have to get them out here for some accurate readings. i spent $16k on the electric so i hope i dont need the buck boosters. what should my readings be at the outlet in the room?

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

Forever Tan is one of the better distributors out there. I'd talk to them or your electricians to find out what they did and why. You'll get better answers there than from us! :)

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

Most commercial buildings have 208 Volts coming in. Therefore you need a buck booster to Boost up the voltage to 220-240 Volts depending on what beds you have. But most likely you WILL need Buck Boosters.
