Re: Do I need buck boosters?

All a buck booster does is boost the power up if neccessary or lower the power if neccessary. I moved a big bear from a location where it required just the booster to a store that was just enough power so i didnt need it. i have about 3 sets just laying around my house. i should sell those. haha

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

It is a very simple question and a simple answer. Ergoline sales should of already explained the electrical requirements of the beds you purchased. They should of found out what you have coming into the building and gave you the correct answer. Each bed mfg has their own optimal voltage running requirements. Someone above said that if you have 240 running to the building that you don't need a BB, not true it depends on what your actual voltage is coming into the building. Most newer commercial buildings have 208 IIIPH which you will need a BB. If you run your unit on IIIPH then you will need two BB for the unit.

Bottom line is listen to the MFG and the electrician and you will be covered. Better yet talk to the MFG's seasoned tech and he will explain it to your electrician and you to have a better understanding of the requirements for each unit you have purchased. Then you will be covered. Good Luck.....

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

Thanks Sarge! I tried to say that, but somehow didn't get it across?

To summarize:

1. It depends what beds you are using

2. It depends what you have coming to the building

3. It depends how long your runs are to the rooms

4. It depends if they transformed the whole unit or not

If you have a quality electrician and a quality bed sales rep or tech -- and you let them talk -- you should know the answer and be fine.

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

The buck booster is made to regulate voltage, therefore, if you are not running correct voltage then you need a booster. Almost all systems require between 215 - 235 volts. The electrician or yourself needs to measure the voltage coming out of one of your 220 outlets, if that voltage is higher or lower than 215-235 then you need a booster. If it is with in that range then you do not need a buck booster.

The new commercial buildings having 208 is only if they have ran 3 phase wiring, not all buildings are like this.

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

(Pushing MORE voltage to the beds will just burn em) WRONG more voltage less amperage less resistance more tanning POWER

Re: Do I need buck boosters?

Again, you need a voltage meter to check your voltage, this is how you know if you need a buck booster or not.

If you have a unit with choke ballast, 215 volts is way to low so when you say almost all systems require 215-235 is not true most units made these days have choke ballast. 220 is actually to low and you won't get the perfromance you need in the bed. Stick with MFG's specs and you will be fine. In my experience for performance, a unit with choke ballast for instantance a standard 100 watt 32 lamp unit, 230 volts seems to be perfect. Larger 160's-200's 235 volts seem to be about the perfect voltage for performance.

Another thing I have ran into, is if an electrician boost up the power before your breaker box to compensate for the voltage needed for your beds, you sometimes run into issue with to high of voltage on a leg that feeds you lighting system and you will go through more lite bulbs then normal. We have had this issues at a few salons but most of the time it was from a wild leg on a III PH system.

Again, listen to the MFG and the MFG's tech (tech with experience) and you will be fine.
