Question Airbrush vs mystic or magic tan

Hi,

First time post, so be kind.

I purchased an exixting salon in June of this year. We need to add the uv free tanning and I am having a spaz trying to decide on the airbrush HVLP or going with mymist system. I keep getting mixed reactions from my current customers, but most state they would prefer the air brush for a more natural looking tan.

There are several Ultra Tans in the area that all carry the Mystic Tan but no other salons offer airbrush tanning.

What do you all think?

Thanks

Re: Airbrush vs mystic or magic tan

There is NOTHING better than airbrush.

PROS:
1. Precise applied amounts, less on already tan areas to level out an existing tan.
2. Customizable, can just do the face neck and arms, waist up or whole body.
3. More one on one with clients.
4. Salon is on control, not the clients - nets better results.
5. Precision of application allows for more realistic results.
6. Low set-up costs.
7. If something breaks, Home Depot may have it!
8. Less solution is wasted.
9. Can fix mistakes.
CONS:
1. Not private for the clients.
2. Takes longer to apply.
3. Additional staff may be needed when busy.
4. Generally need to book appointments.

The BOOTHS:
PROS:
1. Private application.
2. Fast applications.
3. No appointments needed.
CONS:
1. High cost setup means long return on investment.
2. Mistakes can not be fixed.
3. Clients may be no come out even, and usually dont.
4. Best for clients already with a base tan.
5. REALLY hard to use on pasty white clients.
6. Easy to pick out of a crowd, looks less natural.
7. You will use more solution than airbrush per client.
8. Potential break-downs that may not be quickly fixable.

I am sure there are more to add, but offering both may be the best solution. Each one has its strengths. Our booth is in storage, it did not work well and needed constant cleaning. Nozels got clogged a lot, even without using a bronzer. There are some good booths out there, but NOTHING can spray a client like another human can.

Re: Airbrush vs mystic or magic tan

I agree w/ unity' points. We are surrounded by booth's, we went the HVLP route. Built a room out practiced and did 8 sprays this week our first $$ week. It is really easy to do. The results are amazing. If I did it again I would by a cheap HVLP unit from harbor frieght.

Use breeze sol.

Re: Airbrush vs mystic or magic tan

airbrush rocks, have not had an unhappy client yet. although you will get some that are "too shy" or whatever. It would be good to have a man and a woman who can do airbrush well to cover the bases. make sure your customers understand the difference between airbrush and spray and charge appropriately. dont sell yourself short and underprice yourself. a lot of salons charge 50-100 dollars for airbrush, we charge 65, but that includes a bottle of lotion to maintain it and they can get redone three more times for 50 without buying lotion. really push the lotion to maintain, because most dumba's will use some crap they have at home and screw it up or wont use anything.

Re: Airbrush vs mystic or magic tan

Does anyone know what the best air brush tanning solution is. I have been using Bahama Body and it is ok but sometimes it can look too bronze.

Breeze products seem pretty good, but I have a preference to Bidescombe (sp?). We switched because we had HORRIBLE customer service issues with Breeze.

Tried Breeze two weeks ago and I looked like I had leprosy. It faded horribly! I'm sticking with Norvell.

Re: Airbrush vs mystic or magic tan

I have a question with HLPV spray tans. Do customers remove all their clothes or are the provided with throw away bras and panties, PatParadise, (IMWW)
