Channel letter signs

Has anyone used LED lights in place of the normal neon to light their channel letter signs on the exterior of the building? Is the LED sign as bright as a sign that uses double or triple stroke neon? One of the sign company's selling points is the lower cost to operate the sign. Do you think this would be a considerable savings each month/year?

I'm still waiting on a comparison quote of the two so I'm not sure of the cost difference yet.

Re: Channel letter signs

I have seen the LED signs at a couple of places and they are as bright if not brighter then the neon. Savings would be HUGE over traditional neon/transformer types.

An average "tanning" channel letter sign would use about 500 to 1500 watts of juice depending on the type and size of the neon that was used. Compare that to a LED sign that would use (approx) 75 to 100 watts.

Re: Channel letter signs

I want one, but $$$ to install considering I dont "need" one.

Like anything new, they attract attention. Over time, it will be ignored by the people who drive by a lot. We have a small-ish sign that we change out often and move up and down the street to catch the eye. We also make sure we take it in for a couple of weeks here and there so it not just part of teh scenery. Works well.. but LED signs are cool! lol

Re: Channel letter signs

Unity - The signs I am talking about are not the type you are talking about. I'm talking about the sign letters on the outside of your salon. The letters normally have neon behind the faces but the new thing is to put LED's behind the faces of each letter.
