FYI...I work in radio advertising in addition to being a salon owner. The HT ads you're hearing right now are what we call "network" spots. They aren't buying individual stations, they're buying from a single source that has numerous stations they do business with. We don't have a HT within 125 miles of us (as far as I know) and they're running on about 10 stations in my market. Upside to network buys is you get them a lot cheaper than buying the stations individually. Downside is the fact that there's a lot of waste unless you're a McDonalds, Coke, GM, or someone like that. I'm happy to hear them as it increases awareness for indoor tanning, and I don't have to compete with them:lol:.

You think they really care? Their PERSONAL monies are already tucked away and it's just another business to buy and sell out of existence.

Radio does not work for all. The demographics of my salon is 16 to 27. We spike again at 38 to 50 with the female clients.

But there are VERY FEW clients that listen to radio in out target demographics. We tried radio, never recovered the cost. We often ask clients if they listen to radio, TV, etc. Most have iPods and car CD players (or cars with iPod kits). I cant even remember the last time I listened to radio.

We find that TV has a STRONG return, at worst we break even. Not to mention TV time is A LOT cheaper here. We get prime spots on shows like Beauty and the Geek, Top Model, Gossip Girl, etc....

What it comes down to though is not so much the method, but the repetitiveness of your name. Get it out there as often as you can. This thread is a FINE example of that. HT, for all we know, could be hurting for cash big time. But since we see/hear ads we assume success. Clients then get curious and want to check it out. "They must be doing well, they are always advertising".

Yeah they were playing the **** out of their gift card sale for christmas. The funny thing is they don't have salons in our whole state. I do agree it may get people thinking about tanning.

If one's tanning clientele lives within a 3-4 mile radius of your location, how does radio advertising do much more than stroke your ego?
