Here's my opinion! Whats yours?

I have been in the tanning industry for a whopping three months now and I have taken it upon myself to learn as much as possible. I have read endless number of threads in this forum and I have done adequate research elsewhere. Most interesting is what I see from the "elders" in this forum....
Here is what I think:

I see an industry struggling to keep its head above water. Battleing on a regular basis with the false sterotypes that tanning is so bad for you. Restricted by the government from advertising the medical benefits.. And now (IMHO) us smaller salons will be dealing with overshadowing from chain stores.

As I shop for new beds to upgrade to compete, I find OUTRAGEOUS prices from tanning bed manufactures and salespeople. Why I ask........ Why.. Technology should permit a tanning bed to be made at an affordable price. I am beinging to see some colaboration between companies....

Lotions: Sold mostly by the oceans bottom feeders, and over priced....

I guess I am looking for a little team work to continue to grow this industry....maybe I am just ignorant?

You are right this industry has major problems. I went to Solaria in Germany ask what the price of a bed would be in the U.S. and they told me I was like, ok thats not bad. Call the U.S. disty and they raise the price 40% and tried to use some crazy excuse of new years pricing because of the euro. Funny thing is that I have a U.K. disty that gave me a way cheaper price than the U.S. and they pound is way higher than the euro.

The U.S. industry has major issues, and all people in this industry want to do is talk about the good ol days. I want to see this industry go larger than life but its us that keep holding this industry back.

Stop thinking like this is the 1980's and 1990's. Get rid of these 20min beds over in Europe with the new laws and the CPI chips any bed can go any time based on skin type. A sungate could go 20 mins if there skin type needed it to.

Base bed prices should be no lower than $15 a session. This isnt the main thing that can make us move forward but it is a start. This industry gets no respect and we need to make people respect us and 1st is always to raise prices. There are many things but I'll let the so called guru's handle this since they always have the answers.

yeah, 15 bucks a session would be great, but all the "other" places that have devalueized tanning will still charge their 2 bucks a tan......unfortunatley u can get all bed owners to come together on this...although it would be a dream.
