Rhyme or Reason

I am a "new" proud owner of a tanning salon! I have never been in the business before and purchased the salon about a month ago. I have spent a good deal of time educating myself on the rollor coaster aspect of the tanning industry but I have one question. Why is it one day I am extremely busy and the next I am so bored I catch myself counting ceiling tiles??? what gives???? I understand busy / slow season.... but from one day to the next??? help!

We don't know but I think you bought at a good time. SHOULD be a good year next year.

Make some PB&J sangwiches for the remainder of the year though.

We (the Indoor Tanning Association. I didn't do anything) has hired a company to try to counter the negative news on tanning. (we are killers as of these days).

Remember that gas prices go up, tanning goes down. Peoples is broke, they don't tan. Peoples is scared, they don't tan. Peoples is stupid, they DON'T TAN.

Ceetain days are busier. Days after you have been closed will be busier. In our case I know that alot of poeple dont dont over the weekend. So many people dont tan that they all come in on monday. It is usally down in numbers after monday altough tuesday can be just as busy. You will see a spike right before a holiday. Too many warm days in the fall will cause a spike. A quick cool down will keep them out etc etc. Many many reasons.

**** when our college team is playing football or post season basketball it can kill our whole day.

usually our best tanning days are when it is cold but sunny out...

Also, Mon-Thurs are busier... and sometimes you can't figure out why it's slow or busy...go figure????????????

youll soon be able to 'READ" your clients habits.

once you figure your salons busy and slow days as well as certain hours youll be fine because you will expect it.

this is why some salons incorporate sales ideas such as tan before noon, maniac monday, wacky wendesday and such. Its to increase traffic on their slow days.

the guys above are right too. there are many reasons for instance saturday it rained like a sun of a b*tch here so it was dead and monday was super busy and i figured it would be that way

This is a wacky business for sure. This week has been the worst we have ever had. One day we did $0, next day $12.72, today $85. This will be the week from ****. On the flip side we have done $5K a week too. Go figure?!

right. Last week I made more money during the 3hours I was open on SUNDAY than anyother day that week.

Don't even close or cut corners on hours. The biggest spenders sometimes show up at the last minute.
