Should we work togeather?

This question is a bit off the topic: My boyfriend is opening another salon and wants me to work with him (which I would LOVE to) and although we get along wonderfully, I am a bit nervous about working doing so much together. any of you work with spouses/significant others? Your ideas??

Re: Coffee and exercise 'save skin'

I LOVED working with my husband for over 2 yrs straight.... we have way to much fun together and both have different business strengths which works out great.

Re: Should we work togeather?

RUN!!! RUN!!! When the salon revenue slows then you BOTH suffer. If you both have separate jobs then not as big of a worry.

Re: Should we work togeather?

I work with my fiance and I love it too! We definately have totally opposite strengths and weaknesses and together we've been very successful! I have seen it go the other way, like in the case of the previous owners*, so it hits home the idea that if you can live together, work together and at the end of the day sleep together and you still wake up every morning thinking how much you love each other than you've got something really special. Thats what its all about!

(*if you are waking up next to someone other than your significant other, maybe someone whose name you can remember because you were too drunk, then this might not be the best arrangement. get out while you still can!)

Re: Should we work togeather?

Define "another".....

Why wouldn't you work at two separate places "at the same time" instead of together?

Re: Should we work togeather?

I love my husband to death we have a great relationship but, we cannot work together. He will get in my way and tell me what to do know matter if I am in the middle of something. When we are away from the salon its great.

Re: Should we work togeather?

When I was married my husband would always come down and work with me and it drove me crazy.... which is one of the reasons we are now divorced!! LOL!! I just could not stand having him here.

The boyfriend I have now comes down sometimes and its totally different with him. We work together great. So I think it really all depends on the situation. You could always try it out for a while and see how it goes. Good luck!

Re: Should we work togeather?

It may work for some...myself love hubby to death...but we are two very strong willed individuals and it would not work out in business for us. However I have to say his parents started a business 30 years ago in the marine industry, and up to about 5 years ago they shared the same office, every day driving to and from work and working 6 days a week together. If you feel that it could work then go for it...but I do have to agree with engfant about revenues...my husband and I are in two seperate industries and when he is slow I am busy and vice versa.
