Industrial Panel

My salons main breaker is over heating. the breakers for the beds are sparking ( it's getting bad) my electrician just left and said i need to put in a industrial strength panel. I have 5 tanning beds and my salon stays fairly busy. Jam packed in the spring time. Anyways, my questions is how much will putting in a industrial strength panel cost? He said anywhere from $1500- 2000. does this sound right? anybody else have problems similar to this? my breakers were ALL just replaced over a year ago.

Re: Industrial Panel

I suggest getting a couple of estimates from different electricians. Most average retail spaces usually only have about 200amp panel capacity in my experience. So, if you took over that space and turned it into a tanning salon without upgrading the panel, then that is probably what is causing the problem. The amp capacity on your panel needs to be at least 20% more than your possible maximum load at any one time - ie, every bed, all the lights, the AC, computers and other appliances all running at the same time. Good luck with this.

Re: Industrial Panel

this is the second electrician i had in here and they both said the same thing. I'm using all of my power there isnt anything left when the beds are all running and the breakers start tripping. there is no way i can temporarily fix this until monday is there? i'm nervous about this

Re: Industrial Panel

Yeah, it's called balance the load. Always have one bed down to keep the load from going overboard. When one bed shuts off, then you can start the other.

Just close the door like it's being used or something like that.

Re: Industrial Panel

$1500-$2000 is a "deal" in my opinion.
