I suspect many of the sellers can't be serious, as in, "You can't be serious!"

ROFLMAO!!! But they are!! Until reality sets in that is. Then they're all about the "any inquiries welcome", "owner carry", "huge price reduction", etc. But who's to blame? I think most of us would expect to sell a fairly new piece of equipment for witin a grand or two of what we paid for it, right? WRONG!! Or a fairly decent piece of gently used equipment for half of what a new unit with similar features "lists" at, right? WRONG AGAIN!!! So a guy qualifies his ad with "Serious Inquiries Only" in the hopes that that will keep the hagglers off the thread and he might be able to get close to what he needs to get for the equipment. WRONG! AGAIN!! hehe

I always heard the rule of thumb for buying used was after the first 30 days the car, restaurant, tanning equipment, etc. drops in value by 33%.

You're talking Blue Book depreciation. That's a whole different animal compared to tanning equipment - several years ago anyway. Back in the old days, when someone was starting up and they had cash maybe, they could save a bunch of money buying used over new, and the seller still got a decent price for the equipment. Thanks to manufactured inflation from the equipment manufacturers, a person can now buy a "**** near new" used bed for a quarter of the list wholesale price - and the seller is still on the hook in bankruptcy court for the other 75% plus interest.
