Re: elecrical upgrade question

If you are going to upgrade to 3 phase, you might as well up the amps too. It's been a while since I did that. I think it cost me about $4000.00 10 years ago.

Re: elecrical upgrade question

The cost of upgrading a single phase to three phase depends on the existing size of conduit, and the length to the nearest 3 phase transformer or over head lines. I agree with Mr. Derf, if you are planning to add more units you will need to up the amps at least 400amp 3 phase, don't forget if you are adding more unit you also have to look at the A/C unit to upgrade or add a new one. So the more amps you have the more you can do to the new salon.

I'm also an electric project manager, we normal will charge $75.00 per foot and the cost of the panel and to install it.
hope this helps.;)

Re: elecrical upgrade question

Theres alot involed, Like Dimixtt said it depends on the closest 3 phase trans. What we did was to add another meter to the building at singel phase. This also depends on the draw off the the trans. to the building. We were lucky and could add one. Infact the ele. co. said if we liked we could add two. So for a very small salon (4 units) we have two 125 amp feeds total 250 plenty for us but if you could add 2 or 3 meters at 200 amps your at 400 to 600 amps for your salon. Hope this helps.

Aloha, nshorefixit

Re: elecrical upgrade question

thank 4 replys. i think it could have 3 phase to the building because out of 4 units 1 is a chinese restaurant another is a italian/ pizza restaurant then hair salon and the tanning.

i hear restaurants usually have 3 phase?!?!? yes no maybe

all the units have roof mounted ac units also.

the salon uses a 3 pole 60 amp breaker for the a/c......never seen 1 of them before. does that tell yous anything about the a/c size

Re: elecrical upgrade question

HUGE MONEY is the answer. At least 10 large.

CTM, what's the layout of the salon? What do you WANT it to be?
