but as salons fail my business is picking up
so i dont know if i feel bad or if im glad i got into my part of the industry at the right time

Sometimes all it takes is the right part of the Country with the right type of population.

Some people have it, others don't. :(

That's true.
I'm not saying I'm just lucky though either.

I work really hard to train my employees, read up on the latest tanning information, provide excellent customer service, the best hours in town, the best lamps and equipment, etc...

I have no big secret way to do this.

I am also not saying I am making millions....

Me too, and I'm down 30% alone this month. I broke even in January.

All that is great, and hopefully we are all doing just that, but if no one is coming in it become useless. :(

i am up as well. This month started out rocky but looks more promising. i am up in customers, tanning sessions, lotion sales and sunless tanning sessions. I am also in the heart of small town usa but am surrounded by franchises.

I am relatively new to the industry, going on my second full year, and from what i read here its tough. I think that with any industry the tanning industry is going through some changes and yes those whom survive will remain strong. too much oversaturation and that comes with any industry,

Saturation is one thing, but in an Industry where a relatively small percentage of the population is a client, it's worse than other Industries.

thats why so many salons are failing, unfortunately these franchises think they can roll up and take over. sooner or later they will fail and i am sure thier numbers are down they just arent sitting on tantalk.com talking about it they are too busy writing checks
