What do you sell at your salon?
So other than lotion and eyewear, what other things do you sell at your salon? Where do you get these items? I sell navel rings and soon to sell sunglasses and toe rings. Navel rings have been a pretty good success (dont sell a ton, but make a good profit margin on them. Displayed them differently and have been selling a lot more)
I have a local designer that I am going to be showcasing her tshirt designs soon at the salon. Excited about that! Always looking to add to my salon! |

Re: What do you sell at your salon?
These have been big sellers for me. A lot of Doctors and Massage Therapists buy these from me.
www.chievolution.com I also sell Insence that are very popular. I have over 75 different kinds. People come off the street just for them. |

Re: What do you sell at your salon?
I'm going to throw my two cents in here, I'm not saying its wrong to sell all these things, but there is a salon in town, a new one, and she has all kinds of stuff she sells. The thing is people view that around here as a flea market. imo a tanning salon should sell lotions, skin care products, tanning add ons, etc . But I think you can go overboard. I realize people might sell them to help out in the slower seasons, etc. But just depends on your market I guess, a smaller town like this, selling tons of jewelry, clothing, etc just wouldn't fly

Re: What do you sell at your salon?
Sorry PC but it is comments like that, that made me lose a crap load of money last year. I kept listening to peeps on the boards saying that to be taken seriously as a tanning salon I had to do away with my retail items. So I was stupid enough to listen to that and am not making HALF the money I did when I had a store attached to the salon. Now I am strictly tanning and spa with a few add on's and in the slow season I have nothing to fall back on. I say that response is scrap and my biggest regret was ever listening to statements like that.
Not intended to be rude but I hope newbies don't listen to statements like that. |

Re: What do you sell at your salon?
Now the difference is, I have a HUGE salon. I have the space to keep it separated but ended up turning the entire space into tanning. If you have limited space then I agree, don't try cramming stuff into small spaces.

Re: What do you sell at your salon?
Ok, you have your experiences and I have mine. One year we tried the jewelry thing, summer jewelry type of stuff and I think I still have some left. Sorry about your problems, but I dont' think I single handedly made you lose money lol. All I'm saying is that if you are a tannign salon, then you need to make your money on tanning and tanning products. If you want to sell a bunch of other things to make money as well, then you're not a true tanning salon imo. Just my opinion, like I said, it might work for others, but my experience hasn't been good.
Newbies need to make decisions on their own, according to their needs and market. Last edited by pcstutsman; 02-19-2007 at 11:19 AM. |
