Jack Finally gets a new liver
After 3 Years on the list my cousins husband finally got sick enough to get moved to the top. Almost too late He would not have lived more than a week longer with out it. He went in a 11:00am today I will keep you posted.
Why is it they wait until you are almost to sick to be able to recover from the surgery until they give you the organ. seems pretty dumb to me. How many of you think the number of people donating organs would go up if the insurance company reinbursed you for the funeral cost? |

Re: Jack Finally gets a new liver
Best wishes to you and your family during these trying times! We have a genectic kidney disease in our family so we deal with organ donors too. It is such a scarey time for everyone! I will pray for your cousins husband.

Re: Jack Finally gets a new liver
Jenn, I am so happy that things are going well for him. It is really a national crisis now--not just organ procurement but healthcare in general. I am glad he got the liver in time.
They work the waiting list differently for different organs. Kidneys, for example, are more in terms of how long you have been on the list. That is because you can do dialysis treatments and stay alive while you wait. health can play a part, but not usually. Livers can't be substituted for. If it totally quits, you die. They try to give the few available organs to the people that 1. need it the worst and 2. the ones that have the greatest chance of the surgery being successful. My wife and I will keep him in our prayers. |
