Re: Setting up a wireless network....

splurge and get an aiport extreme with up to 50 users, you can call yourself a hotspot and get the exposure. http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/setup.html SUPER EASY TO INSTALL!
We just installed ours and our leaving it open for passerbys, it's free exposure for us. We already pay for internet, our computer is secure and the airport is open for others.

Re: Setting up a wireless network....

We tried the wireless and then went back to cables... grrrrr. I guess the walls were just too thick or whatever, but I was constantly off and on, off and on... didn't work too well with me.

You can setup a hotspot with almost any router not just an airportextreme. I woudln't leave an open connection for passerbys it's to risky. You realize if they use your connection for downloading child porn or sending spam you are the one the authorities will go after. Your customers should have to ask you for the SSID and you shouldn't broadcast it wirelessly.
Our connection is encrypted and pw protected.

spot on... broadcasting the SSID isn't such a big deal as long as the connection is secured

Re: Setting up a wireless network....

You definately want to make sure that your network is encrypted. It takes a few more steps, but yours and your customers security is worth it.

it's because it's a Dlink which works about 50% of the time and a USB wireless which works about 50% of the time.
