Cool Re: aloe vera based vs water based lotions

I guess you're saying something bad about Breeze products. Not really sure. I was just sharing information because I thought it was useful. I know it's going to help me in the future when peeps say they want an aloe-vera based lotion. I have some on my shelves and didn't even know it. I'm always ready to learn something new.

They have to have the water listed because they mix it with the aloe powder or gel to make the lotion. Tom said the FDA requires water listed first. Its a new law that went into effect in 2002, but there are companies that have "grandfathered" their lotions in. Just about every lotion on my shelf starts with water, but the second ing is aloe gel. Just FYI.
The FDA requires the ingredients to be listed by the most to the least. If water is the 1st ingredient then it is a water base, meaning the bulk of the product is water and so on down the list.

I never heard of a lotion being grandfathered I would like to see the clause.

Re: aloe vera based vs water based lotions

That is right....FDA regulations state that all active ingredients are listed from most to least. if water is the first ingredient, then that is the most active ingredient. not the 2nd or the 3rd. This is coming from a Chemist for cosmetics and lotions. Not in the tanning industry.

If water is first....then it's water based.

Oh yeah.....just checked a matahari bottle and it's water based. Devoted Creations entire line is all Aloe based.

More moisturizing and hydrates the body more and lasts longer for stronger moisturizing which is the most important part of a lotion. Will help you see stronger colour and make it last longer.

My 1.9cents .......(Canadian)

Re: aloe vera based vs water based lotions

Here is my 2 cents worth also..

.I was taught by a manufacturing company NOT related to the tanning company, but was a company that produces cosmetics in general and the seminars we attend on products ingredients/contents potency was as follows: The first 2-3 lines of a products majority make up is in that first 2-3 lines. FDA has its requirements throughout the product listing and when it comes to "natural" FDA only requires a minimal % to allow a company to call its product NATURAL. So..Aloe is great, but what % is really Aloe..(Most consumers don't know as well as us buyer..You have to call manufacturer: "who does this?')

So There are lots of ingredients one should look for in their lotion to call it an "assisting" or products that really do not have any "substance" if you will for ones skin. As we know products with Aloe, Water are used often used as the based moisture carrier, as so as alcohol for quicker evaporation etc. As it was stated above is true the "real" product substance is listed from most to least.

I was under the impression if water was listed first then water is one of the main host of that product's ingredients, but if aloe vera follows then its next assisting property is a plant derived ingredient..thats all. '

If the product ingredient begins with Mineral oil/petrolatum or PVP/VA copolyer then pretty sure guess this would be synthetic oil base product. However for Proplene Glycol which ideally this is a vegetable glycerin mixed with grain alcohol, both of which are natural are usually mixed with a synthetic petrochemical mix used as a humectant. Again I would think this would be considered a "oil" base..

I hope this is not off subject, but I would think the real question instead of Water or Plant base product is what else is in the product that you don't want on your skin...
If it is water or plant base this is a-okay--Its the other synthetics that the manufacturers put in the product I'm most concerned with.

FYI:
I review most of the products on the market and it is tough NOT to find product with synthetic "JUNK" ingredients...
Product Ingredients to Avoid:
Methyl, Propyl, Butyl , Ethyl Paraben, DEA, TEA, Diazolidinyl Urea, Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate, Petrolatum: Mineral Oil, Propylene Glycol, PVP/VA Copolymer, Stearalkonium Chloride, Synthetic colors, Synthetic Fragrances...

Sorry..kinda got on my "soap" box..LOL

Re: aloe vera based vs water based lotions

Silas, don't know why you made that comment.........rude to say the least.

I do know what I am talking about, alcohol dries out the skin and I will not use that on my skin. I always check bottles of lotion that claim to moisturize the skin, if they have alcohol, how is that possible?

I don't know if the alcohol hurts the acrylic, but I am curious.
