Re: Help with new business
My competition has very old gen-x and baby-x and no stand-ups. They are poor operators in most other respects but they draw them in with the gen-x. Part of their draw is that they charge by the minute rather than the session and allow tanning past the maximum time allowed. They also put 160 watt bulbs in bench when sticker states 100 watt maximum. I don't intend to follow their path but the gen-x name sells for them. I think the name recognition will convince many of their customers to try a NEW set of beds. All of there beds are very old. Also, 160 is standard in bench for new gen-x so I won't have to "cheat" to compete. I am very open to other beds or stand-ups. I've heard so many good things about the suncapsule I thought it was a winner. The only other tanning salon in the area has 1 low-grade standup so I wanted a "stud" standup as a selling point. I've heard many good things about the bermuda triangle. Agree?

Re: Help with new business
I would prefer other beds, like some of them thar high society salons, but people don't wanna pay for da fancy stuff here. If it tans them, that's all they want. :(

Re: Help with new business
I'd go totally different beds. I'd try to make myself as distant from anything your low-end comp has. I don't think any tanners care about the name on the bed.

Re: Help with new business
I agree with all of you...go with what the comp doesn't have. That's why I went TropicRayz. Really though...my clients absolutely LOVE the beds. I, knowing a bit about different beds, wish I could have afforded some serious big dogs, but hey, the clients like what I got. KWIM. And my standup is a rocker for sure...not familiar with suncapsule tho.

Re: Help with new business
Tallked to him Tuesday and Wednesday... he was going to email me first thing Thursday morning and I've gotten nothing. Left messages on his cell and land line as well as email. He was all over it first 48 hours and now nothing. Hope he's ok but I need to move. I have to have serial numbers before I can even get insurance.
