Minimum Wage increase

Anyone concerned about minimum wage going up from $5.15 to $7.25? I know I am just because I've only owned my business for 2 yrs now and am still trying to get extra money built up in my acct. But I understand both sides of the increase.

I SOOO want this to happen.
5.15 doesnt pay for hardly ANYTHING in this day and age, no matter the age.

Re: Minimum Wage increase

No it doesn't but your parents do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JK Matrix.:) But i've said it before.....there should be 2 separate min. wages. Yes a lower one for students. And you have to understand it's no slight towards teens. It's just that they won't make any more $$$$$$$ They'll make less. They'll be less jobs and def. less hours available. With only a few exceptions students aren't trying to support a family. (actually i was but thats a rarity)

Re: Minimum Wage increase

Wanna get a kick? Here in Northern Canada. They are starting employees off at $16.50 CDN at such places Canadian Tire, Wal Mart, Subway, A&W. That horrible for us small people that can't afford to pay that and need to hire people. It's a joke, I say!!!!!

Re: Minimum Wage increase

I don't think $5.15 an hour is enough either but that's for someone that has a family. Teenagers don't need to be making $7.25 an hour especially during the slow season. We can't afford it being in the industry that we are in. Not looking forward to the possible change for me or for the younger girls that work for me but will be happy for the people that have family. It's going to cause me to work more then what I already do plus only be able to afford one person during the busy season. The girl that I have working for me right now, I can't even imagine giving her $7.25 an hour. She doesn't do anything but work so I can have time to myself and my family one time a week. She could care less about commission as well because she doesn't need the money. She lives at home and her parents pay for everything. Can you imagine paying $7.25 an hour plus commission. The commission is used to get an employee motivated to work harder and sale more. This will suck for small business owners but good for low income family. I agree with bronzeman11, I think there needs to be a age limit to this minimum wage. Anyone under 18 or still in high school needs to be paid $5.15 anyone with a family gets paid more.

Exactly, artificially inflated minimum wages will mean more unemployment. It really makes no sense at all.

Matrix, you have been trying hard to get a job at a tanning salon I believe. Mandatory minimum wage increases will make that even more difficult and even more difficult to open your own salon someday if it continues to be inflated artifically and not by the value of the employee to the biz.

Re: Minimum Wage increase

If they raise minimum wage to 7.25, I'm going to have to get a big raise, too...can't have employees making more than the manager. BOLBOL
