Landlord won't comply!

How about this? I have been paying my electricity bill & my landlords the entire time I have been renting from them. I wasn't aware, until AFTER I moved in that their machine shop business was tied into my electric meter. I notified the Utility co. about this they said they must get a sep. meter. I sent them a letter, rent - $200 from 8 month of light payments, which really was more but trying to be nice and asking them to please get a seperate meter. She stormed into my store this am, said she WAS NOT going to get a seperate meter said if i didn't get her the rest of her rent she was going to put a lock on my door! So either i keep paying the rent + her lights or move. This is just a MESS!! ANy suggestions?

did they give you a reason why you were paying the other unit's bills? The Tenant has more rights than a landlord.....if they do lock the doors, you can sue for HUGE coin.

wrongfully locking your door, they must give you notice if you do not pay within those 30 days, then they can lock the door. In that time, straighten out your billing and then pay the remaining amount.

if they lock the doors, you can sue for loss of income....show them month of MAY , the busiest time of year and tell them that is what you are losing.....and loss of potential revenue. average of 5-10 new customers a day......

let them lock the door if that is an option you want to take. You'll win....BUT your business will hurt and people will think you took their money and ran. Service business is hard.....You'll get into refunding EFT's and stuff...

if the lawyer doesn't straighten it out.....call your buddy Louis Ville and start swinging.....

Call lawyer and have them send a letter to landlord immediately.....it will be rectified once they get the lawyer's letter.

But if anything happens,.....tenant will win almost every time. Unless you do something really stupid.

if that doesn't work.....take a baseball bat to her head......that'll work.

Uuuuum? A machine shop?? You didn't think the 5K bills were a bit excessive? And, when you started the biz you did not contact the electrical company to arrange for your own billed services? Oh my.

Yeah i know theres not much to do about it now, but you always want to make sure of things like this before you just pay the bill. Check your lease and see what it says and go from there. We split our electric bill when we were tied in with another bill, just 50/50, which was good for us, and bad for them. lol
