Re: jason blues
I started out with 1, yes 1 used tanning bed just over 2 years ago (2 years this March). I had my eye on a building to rent ( ideal location) and as soon as it was available, I jumped on it. I did a postcard mailing the first month and people started coming. I also had a line on another used bed and bought it a month later. This year I added a standup and a 15 minute bed. This June was the busiest June I've had since we opened (only a couple hundred behind March of this year). I've always had the same hours since we first opened. M-F 9 - 6, Sat 9 - 2, Sunday Closed. I do stay opened as needed after these hours and book accordingly. We do appointments but also take walkin's. .
Why am I telling you this? Because, I'm in a small village of 1200 people. The only comp, I have are 2 hair salons, 1 with a spray tan and 1 with a bed and standup, and the gas station 5 miles away with a standup. Right now I'm pulling from people up to 15 miles away and business is looking good so far. Today I did 32 people. The point I'm trying to say is that it sounds like you could do really well but it will take time. You have the only true tanning salon in town. Given that, if you can hang on, things might look good in the future. Here's a few suggestion's Cut your hours and stick to them. Close on Sundays to give you some time off. Come up with some great specials to get them in and keep them coming in. The best thing that works for me is the word FREE. Next is save, save, save. I bought all my units used and saved for them and shopped around. Sure it's hard and I can understand where your coming from with a family. I have 7 kids but my youngest is 16 now. I also own & operate an adult foster care home (24/7 job), and work at a horse stable (daily) as it pays for my boarding, food, and bedding for our 2 horses. My hubby helps with all of this and I don't think we could do all this without him and us working together. Research and evalulate your options. If you expenses are really high you might have close up. I know that my expenses are silly cheap and this has helped. If your making payments on those beds that in itself hurts, especially for a salon as small as ours. What ever you do good luck Last edited by Coppertone; 06-30-2006 at 11:45 PM. |
