Re: attic fans
Well if your a/c unit is really, really huge it should create anough of a "draft to pull out heated exhaust air.(that's assuming it has a power exhaust) If not you can duct each exhaust stack out to the roof(goose neck to prevent rain coming in)
Thats expensive so you sound like your on the right track with the "attic fan" idea. You'd need to talk to an hvac guy to calculate the size. You're right as far as removing that hot air though. To just exhaust it up into the attic isn't enough. True hot air rises but force enough into a space and it'll get pushed right back down. Also if you have returns it'll come back down there also. I think Home Depot has pretty good sized power ehxaust units. Just have someone really knowledgeable calculate the size fan you need. I'm going to H.Depot tonight, i'll PM you if i find anything for you.

Re: attic fans
^^^^^yep, listen to Mikey...errrr engfant....errrrr....T.Lee, he's right. If you have your a/c unit (rooftop?) set to bring in minimal outside humid air and blend the drier attic return air it's much more efficient. CTM , i did go to H.D. last night. They have a really good selection and the prices ranged from $99.00 to $600.00. The "help" there seemed pretty knowledgeable but of course thats going to vary from store to store. I still reccomend speaking with an hvac guy(maybe you could barter? ) to make sure you get the correct size. Try doing a google search on attic fans for commercial use. If i find out anything else i'll pm you.

Re: attic fans
You will need make up air to replace an equal amout of air that is taken from your salon. Any air condition or restaurant air guy can calculate for you what is needed. You can't just suck air out without replacing it or all of you air conditioning will be sucked out as well.
