Re: minimum wage increase
What happen when the wage goes up and it is the same wage that im paying my girls that have been with me for a while. They will have a fit and want mor pay. I am just hoping it doesnt pass. In our state the bill was really being pushed be christian groups. No one asked me at church directly - i would have told them what i thought about it. It will push some businesses over the edge. Some will fold because it just isnt worth it. I wish they could do a study and see how many people lost jobs after the increase goes into effect. I will cut back on hours - its not going to help anyone that needs it. Part time jobs usually pay this wage. 30 hours a week whats that going to be an extra $35 a week. If i have a family whats this going to do for me - nmot squat. I may even go as far as making my commission people come in and work bed cleaner hours next year.

Re: minimum wage increase
Of course MM i understand that. But i don't think the Gov. should tell me how much to pay students. I only separated students because generally there not supporting a family. If the minimum goes up it really will hurt students because there will be less jobs available. That's really true. I really do think "you get what you pay for", but i also think it's up to the worker who's motivated to make more money to increase his/her value to their employer and the pay rate should be negotiated between worker/employer. Uncle Sam ruling will result in less job oppty. NO OFFENSE MEANT TOWARDS STUDENTS.......EXCEPT THE 15 YR. OLDS !!! LOL

Re: minimum wage increase
IMO and what do I know really cause I don't own a salon yet. I'm just currently doing research to on day earn my dream of owning my own.
I think you get what you pay for. When I do finally start I'm gonna look into this subject long and hard. I have worked for a lot less than what I feel my time is worth and it sucks. As a business owner I don't know what it is like to budget it all but one of the biggest reasons you go into business for your self is so you can have the potential to make more money than a min wage or what you might make working for someone else. Also though in being that owner I want to make sure that I'm fair to my employees because they will be working so I get paid more (hopefully if im successful anyway) Not that I wont have to work but like most say and know the owner gets away with and gains much more than their employees. With that I just want to say that I think paying anyone min wage isn't enough. For a couple of reasons. If you pay someone min wage they will do min wage work. I think how much your company is willing to pay you for your time says alot about how well they treat you as an employee and how much they value what you do for them. I feel that If I expect my employee to bend over backwards and do all the things I ask...you all know the long list of things a boss expects, that as an employee I better get something out of it. Now I understand there are other factors to deciding how much you can/should pay someone but I guess in a nut shell what I'm trying to say is that I'm not going to treat my employees the way my bosses have treated me. I didnt like it and I wont do it to anyone I have working for me. If my past bosses would have payed me what I was worth I would have worked a lot harder and cared a lot more about there business because they showed they care about me. |

Re: minimum wage increase
It really should all come down to the worker. I don't like Uncle Sam telling me how much i have to pay someone. It should be based on the individuals value to the buisness. Want more money ?.......increase your productivity & thus your value to the owner. I've worked for many people and i never expected something for nothing. Not happy with your pay? Increase your value or move on. It really will hurt more people than it may help. It's tough to increase prices in this economy and to stay profitable it will often come down to less jobs available.
When i suggested previously having a lower student minimum wage it was not a slight towards students but would actually create more opportunity by making more postions available. Remember it's a starting wage. I always provide the opportunity to make more than double the minimum wage....but it's ultimatley up to the worker.

Re: minimum wage increase
If /when the min wage goes up here, I will eliminiate 1 part time position (high school 16 year old girl) and possibly cut back the hours of another. I will have to work the extra hours, at least until we see how the pricing shakes out with the competitors.
