Pink Eye Question

A lady called the other day and said that she has pink eye and that she is positive that it came from our salon. Before I respond to her I wanted to think about it and also get your thoughts. I think that it is very unlikely that she got it from our goggles because we use the Cal Tan solution for our goggles and we changed the solution every week.
All also did some reading on pink eye and noticed their is about a million different ways you could get pink eye. I really don't believe she got it from our salon but how do I convey this to her?

Pink eye is very easily spread. My son just had it over Christmas break. It's really hard to say where the the woman came into contact with the virus, but if I were you I would be changing the solution for your goggles much more than once per week. We also use the Cal Care solution for our eyewear, but I change the solution out everyday during season, and every other day during off season. JMO. Good luck with this.

I am an licensed optician and see many patients in my office in a day with pink eye. The others are correct, there are MANY ways to get this virus, you can touch a handle that someone with pink eye touched and may contract the virus. That's too bad that she is saying she got it from your salon. Sorry:(

It can come from anything -- pens, knobs, money, visa pen pads, handshakes on and on....

We changes our solution everyday, sometimes twice during season. Can you use the solution for more than one day?

I would definately change solution more often. We keep enough sets of eyewear on hand to get through one day in busy season. We soak our eyewear in fresh hot water and solution everytime. That way if we ever get the awful phone call we can state we have done everything possible to prevent this problem in our salon. Good luck. Pink eye is so highly contagious and they can get it from just about anything. Just soo easy to point the finger at your salon! I would let her know you go above and beyond to sanitize. Sorry

What I would do is contact the other customers that came in that day and see if any of them got pink eye. If not, great you did you due dilligence and can definately determine that the virus did not come from your salon.
Now don't tell her in a way just to prove her wrong but that you were concerned for your other clients. You will end up looking great. You might also be able to use this to sell more eyewear.

Just wante to say thanks for all your thoughts - I also wanted to say that I was using a week just as an illustration. We do change our solution sometimes everyday and sometimes and couple of days. We actually keep a log of when we change it.
