Banner Regulations

I am so incredibly mad. Our city has just implemented a new banner law. You can only have a banner up 4 months out of the year!! You must pay a $30 permit fee for each month. As if that wasn't enough...they regulate what your banner says. It has to be a banner about a special. For example it can't say "Tan Here" it would have to have a special offer.

I am the most mad about only being able to have a banner 4 months out of the year!!

I would not keep up a banner year round anyway. It distracts from your special events from when you want a banner up to draw attention.

This is a stupid reg.. Rotating them is a good idea. When you say only 4 months do you mean 4 months with one particular banner or 4 months total. That would make rotating a pain.

This may sound really stupid but I had a friend build me a giant square and I used chalk board paint. I set it outside a write specials or sayings on it. Everyday is something different. It sounds cheesey but it actually looks very nice. Sucks when it rains, though. Our town has limits on signs also but they haven't given me any trouble with this. The permit fee sounds ridiculous! What can they do to ya'? Send out the "sign" police? Good luck!

4 months total out of the year. Missyhot, we are also not allowed to use any signage like that, something that is not permanent, they consider a banner. WTF??? Yes, they really will write you a ticket!!

We are starting our EFT this January, & I wanted our $19.99 banner to be out front at least Jan - May!! I never have left a banner out all the time....but I want to be able to if I want!!!

I don't know what City you live in Angelcat, but I've never heard of such a thing as a permit fee for signs. You need to raise some noise. Write to your SPEAK OUT column in your local newspaper (if they have one) and generate some support. I'm sure your not the only Business that's unhappy with this. Businesses (especially like ours) need to be allowed to let the community know what specials we're running and who and what we are about. I personally feel like that is OUR RIGHT! I've done some pretty goofy things and my community has let me get away with it....I'm lucky I guess.

Yup. Got a Chamber of Commerce? Raise a stink with other businesses, over this obvious cash grab. Find a loophole if you can. Any regs. on vinyl lettering applied to windows?

It' not the city here that won't let us, it's our landlord that won't let us.
Banners are not allowed at all.

Technically, a flag is not a banner. Start using flags instead.
