Do you find it difficult sometimes to upsell moisturizers in your salon? If you do, what's the most common customer feedback you've received for them not wanting to buy it (price, fragrance, they buy it at Wal-Mart, etc.)?

I sell Supre Hempz moisturizer and it goes like hot cakes! I explain to them that if they are not adequately moisturizing their skin they are tanning dead skin flakes that will just slough off. I tell them that Hempz contains hemp seed oil which is closest to the oil your skin naturally produces, and it lasts for up to 12 hours. SALE!! and it retails for 20.00. But since you probably don't sell this, it doesn't help.

Moisturizers aren't that expensive, so that shouldn't be a reason that they don't sell. If anything people don't purchase them because of cheaper lotions available at Wal-Mart, Bath and Body Works, etc. But, it is also the tanning consultants job to inform customers that moisturizers are specifically designed for thier skin and will help them hold their tan longer and moisturize their skin. Upselling ins't always difficult because of price, fragrance, etc., it's because of a lack of effort on our employees part.

We try to sell them mainly as an add on sale when they are purchasing their tanning lotion. We use the line..."and this is the tan extender that goes with your lotion".
People will pay more $$ for a TAN EXTENDING lotion. |

I often say that dry skin requires different nourishment than tanned, dry skin and that the salon moisturizers are specifically formulated with that in mind. This is often why these lotions also serve as tan extenders. In addition, I point out that they get 22 fl oz for $25 which is a great way to make the size work for you (re. Kisses, Forever After, Endless).

I dont like Supre but they make some good moisturizers. Get that hempz or tinted skin system on the skin - sale. For those of you that carry the Hempz. Have you noticed that the Hempz display with 12 bottles of lotion the display and about 24 sample packets is cheaper than just buying 12 bottles.
I hate to type this but - whos heard of the jergens with the tint in it. I have customers out the *** using this stuff. Stocker at wal-mart said a salon owner came in and bought 2 cases to resale. I am getting tired of hearing about this stuff. I have a girl on staff that reccommeds this stuff to our sunless tanners. |

Ditto caribbeansun...one thing for sure that encourages sales..using "walmart" brands can actually inhibit your tan, block rays due to scents, additives, unknowns. Therefore use "this" brand. My favorite sale is the easy pink, Cats P.J's-Swanky. These 24/48 hr moisturizers are the worst for tanners.

But, aren't there some salon quality moisturizers that also have small amounts of DHA? I remember reading about one somewhere, and the reviews were that it smells much better than the Jergens stuff. |
