Hi,Everyone!
I have a 3 bed salon in a small town. Wedding & Portrait Photography is my main occupation and i do the tanning thingie for a side job.. << just thougth I would give you a little info...ha ha I never post before, hope it's ok if I ask you experienced salon owers a question... I been open for tanning since March 22 05 I am doing great buisness so far but I ran into some problems along the way. I been having tanner taking advantage of me..They leave there package run out and I'm on the stick and ask them if they would like a new package when they arrive(after expired package) They say, well i didnt bring my check book with me today.. Grrrrrrrr!!!!!! Why on earth would you come tanning without money and expect to tan? I have a lady thats been tanning for a week now and she is making up excusses everytime she comes in.. I say do you know your package ran out.. Well I'll pay you Friday!! The nice person I am, I always say ok... well now its turn for the bad, i have 4 people tanning without packages now... My question is... How do I tell my tanning clients in a nice way they can't tan because of $$$$$ Peed in Pa |

I will extend this courtesy sometimes to a "regular". But if you've only been open a few months, not sure if you have many of those yet. Sounds like you are letting yourself get taken advantage of because you are afraid if you say "no" they won't come back.
One suggestion - don't wait until they are out, before you hit them up to renew. Let them know - "you have two more sessions after today - would you like to repurchase now while you have your purse with you?". Or "your month is going to expire next Wednesday - if you would like, I can run your card for another month today and it will just start up automatically for you when that one runs out". Take control. You can be "nice", but it is still a business. If you don't have enough money for your groceries - you put some back. If you don't have enough money to tan, you come back when you do. |

Ditto with what sunsally said. They will continue to do this. This is a real business and should be treated as such - no pay no play. Send em packing and they wont do it again. What are you going to lose - you are already tanning them for free. Cant lose the business if they aint payin.

been there done that, everything from your problem to people wanting special deals because their such good customers. learned real quick they weren't such good customers. tell them gee I.m sorry but your package has run out and don't let them tan. the ones who get mad and don't come back you don't want anyway. the ones who get mad and do come back will usually become a very good customers. I found that about 95% come back

Hum you need to inform these so called clients that they have expired. no money no tan...whos paying the bills.
YOU are running a business. When the client purchase the package they are told the expire date, or when they get close to last session we inform them. I give enough away without letting people tan for free... WHos the boss there anyway. |
