I am thinking about buying a shark, and also a shuttle, made by soltron. I don't know anyone who has either of these units in their salon. I am looking for some feedback on this bed and booth from someone who has them. How much do you charge for them, are you and your customers happy with them, are they worth the price, etc.? I know they have all of the glitz that customers like to see, but how is their performance?

These are Soltron beds - a JK Ergoline company (sister to Ergoline).
The Shark is equivalent to the Ergo 850 High/Low pressure combo bed. The Shuttle is the Lounge equivalent - the stand-up. Great reviews so far. That Shark hi/low pressure is not for the faint of heart - it'll put a tan on you, but you better be prepared! Not crazy about stand-ups, nor those with "dressing rooms" (prefer a "regular" room with area to spread out). But if you're looking for something like those features, the Shuttle will hit the mark! How to price them and if they are worth the price will depend on what other equipment you have in your salon, your competition, etc. Shark should be at least a Level 4 bed, maybe 5. Shuttle is probably level 3. Shark could easily be a $25-35 walk-in price, maybe $13-18 for the Shuttle. All depends on your market and mix! |

They're not really sisters. More like step-sisters. Yes, JK is the mother (no pun intended), but they are essentially Ergoline beds that just look a little different. I think you can trust the line. Distys though, whole nuther discussion. Good luck.

My clients and I both love my Shark ($32 single session, 1/2 price for members), those who do use the shuttle love it and continue to use it ($18 single, 1/2 price for members), the built in dressing room allows you to show off this unit. My is just off the lobby in an open area, it gets people's attention.

Thanks for the input. What kind of comments do you get about the built in dressing room in the shuttle. It is so small, I have wondered if it is really used very often. I guess being in an open area they would have to use it, but what kind of feedback have your customers given you on that? Do you find that most of the people who pay for these units the first time come back for more, or buy a membership so that they can tan in them more often for less? Being a high end bed, I am a little concerned about how often they will be used. I was thinking that if and when I do purchase them, I would have a free tanning weekend so that people that would normally not pay that kind of price would try it. Then maybe after they tried it and saw how good it works, they would purchase additional sessions. I'm sure a lot of people have tried that tactic. Does it work well?

Really? Anyone else think the factory bulbs are bad? I hate to think I'd have to change the bulbs as soon as I bought the booth. I am having problems getting questions answered by my distributor now though. Maybe this is a warning sign to me? I mean, if I am ready to give them my money, and they aren't getting back to me, then what are they going to be like after I purchase if I have a problem? I like them a lot personally, but their customer service seems to be lacking with me. Maybe it is because they are so busy this time of year, but I really don't think that is a very good excuse. We're all busy, right? I think maybe I need to shop around some more. I was planning on buying 8-10 new beds, ( 4 or 5 levels) and wanted to get them all from the same company. Thought that would make things easier in the long run, they would flow together, etc. What are your opinions on that theory? Think it's better to have a few varieties, or one brand? I've had three different brands in the past, and they were so different I didn't think they gave the salon a good flow.
