I disagree, SwedaGuy. It really is none of your business.

Just as it is none of Outback Steakhouse's business that McDonalds is selling $1.00 Double Cheeseburgers and that McDonalds kitchen may not meet the standards of Outback Steakhouse. That's none of their business. And food service is the most regulated consumer business.

Mind your own business.

Run your own business right and be the best tanning salon you can be.

I know of a nail salon that has a few tanning beds in the back. They leave windex and paper towels in the tanning rooms for their customers to clean their own beds. Not my business.

I know of a tanning salon that has put high UVB lamps in a couple beds they nicknamed "The Zapper". They limit the session time to 5 minutes. Not my business.

I know of a barbershop with a few beds in the back allows their clients extra time for a couple bucks more. Not my business.

Some salons do not have a strict regimen for sanitizing community eyewear. Not my business. I don't even believe in community eyewear. Our clients buy and use their own eyewear.

I know of a fitness club that has their customers clean their own beds. Not my business.

I have been in a "mega" salon that operated equipment I consider to be a broken down fire hazard. Last year one of their beds did actually catch fire. Not my business.

Business is Darwinian. Mind your own business. And don't drink the kool-aid.

Most of you new guys who want regulation do not even understand that some beds are allowed to go 30 minutes. I do not have any and would not mostly because of the time constraint.

Let me ask again...

WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR IT?

If you think yo want regulations, do your homework.

Read the text of the laws recently enacted.

Absorb the impact that the major fines ($Thousand$) for minor infractions would have on your business.

Understand that salon owners do not have meaningful impact on the regulations enacted.

Know that once regulations are enacted it is easier to add additional anti-tanning regulations until the goals of the AAD and the dermoterrorists are met.

Don't drink the kool-aid.

Some of us new guys? Bottom line is this. Without regulations your just another profession without a purpose.I don't understand why you Ramee and EZ feel regulations are so bad.You haven't made valid points.

I for one think it's my business why? Because it's me and my staff that have to take the time out to correct someone about eyewear or not using lotion or laying everyday.Don't get me wrong I love to educate my customer but the hair on the back of my neck stands up when I gotta argue my case because joe blow's salon down the road said its ok for this or that.

If regulations are so bad then why do we have them in the first place? So without getting a license or certification does that make all salon owners professional? Just because they opened a tanning salon.I think not.

I really am only concerned with my state. But until you can actualy come see what a tanning salon is run like in my town you can only assume regulations would hurt us.Maybe if you all call in advance I can get you a appointment at wilbor's BP GAS -N- TAN **** get a tan and oil change in 10 minutes or less.

Yeah we don't need regulations.

New guy's ??? Who would that be all I see are veterans posting, you seem to be the newbie Ramee ! I will rate the situation from 1 to 10 on how it laffects my Bottom line (pay check) then decide. When the guy down the street advertizes that his Orbitz beds are safer than mine then I have issues, especially when it is not true & customer do not want to come here because they have been lead to believe that my beds arn't as safe then you bet IT IS MY BUSINESS....

I agree. They will never be in the favour of the salon owners. A perfect balance will never happen.

So, be careful what you wish for...

I do agree that the government dosen't have our backs on this one.Kinda like whats going on with baseball and steriods congress needs to keep their noses out. But with that being said even baseball has a head cheese. He makes decisions for the better of MLB.Who do we have? Can we still look professional without having some reg's in place.

And BTW now that I think about it if congress wants to put their nose in our business they can you see we the people elected them to serve the best interest of our needs.
Now with that being said they do a crappy job at it but it still doesn't change how I feel about having a org that raises the level of our profession.

Sounds to me the people that are afarid of regulations are worried that the O'mighty green dollar will be lost.Saying it's none of your business what joe blow does at his salon is like saying hey I got this friend that cheats but its ok it's none of my business can't hurt noone if they don't know.

We are in Texas, one of the most regulated states in the country. It is hard for me to believe that there is that many salon owners that don't want the playing fields leveled. What are you afraid of? Our license costs us, if I remember right, about
$125 a year. I can't imagine having to compete against a salon that can make stuff up as they go along. We wonder why people don't think of us as professionals. We just
stated the making a hamburger has more regulations than operating a tanning salon.
As long as it is resonable rules I have no problem with regulations. Texans are known for not liking anyone to tell them what to do, but I think basic regulations are
needed to raise our image to the professional level. What other industry that people consider to be professionals has no rules.

Agreed, but you're not going to get basic regulations to level the playing field, that's the problem.
