Absolutely have the parents sign a consent form in your presence. And regs on teen tanning vary from state to state. And yeah, be aware of slow news day tricks.

Check your waiver that you are using for your tanners, including the underage minor's. A minor cannot enter into a legal contract. Be sure the parent signs for everything, and do so in person. At that time you can confirm with the parent if the child is allowed to come to the salon at anytime they want, alone, or they can only tan on this one visit. Be sure that the parent specifies this. It is possible that a parent will believe that the one time they signed the waiver meant that it was for that visit only, and if their child comes back later that week and gets burned you may still have a lawsuit on your hands.

I live in canada so there is no "state" or "FDA" I now know that the legal age is 16, under that age get a signature. Everything is legal and smooth thanks for your suggestions.

Let me put it this way. I was half owner of a rather successful candy that was popular in the mid-90's. It was very sour, lots of malic acid, and we were sued twice because some kid poured a whole tube of the stuff in his mouth and got a minor chemical burn on the tongue (like when you eat a whole roll of Sweet Tarts). When a parent sues on behalf of a minor, unless its outrages your liability carrier will settle, and up go the premiums.

The operative contigency here is "valid".

In Maryland, one must be 18 to sign a valid waiver of informed liability; otherwise, parents must give informed consent.

A valid waiver of liability is required by my insurance underwriter. Without a valid waiver of liability, you leave yourself open to unimagined liability exposure without a defense or an insurance company to back you up.

I didnt get the info officaly someone I knew told me, that the age was 16. And like 3.9/4 of the salons in my area limit the age to 16. But they let anyage tan with consent! What do people think of children 11-15 years old tanning. Is it safe for someone that age to tan, would you advise kids tanning indoors. Does anyone think that that age should be tanning indoors or out.
