I currently have 6 tanning beds and 3 booths that I want to install Sirius Radio in (plus the lobby). I've found it so difficult to deal direct with Sirius, as no one can assist me with a viable solution to my situation.
My option is to buy 10-radios (boom boxes) and receivers and put them under seperate accounts because Sirius only allows up to 4 per household... and I'm not paying higher fees because I'm a business. The way I see it... I'm exposing thousands of my clients to their service, so why should I have to pay more. My clients are paying me to tan, not to listen to Sirius radio for 12-20 minutes. Does anyone here have Sirius in their salon? I want Sirius over XM (personal preference). |

I looked into Sirius and they were a pain in the a** to deal with. Let me tell you what I had done....
I put ceiling amplified speakers in the walls (for my SunStorms I put speakers in the surround with the fan with a volume control on the wall) and ran all of the wires to the amplifier and hooked it up through my computer and am currently running AOL radio (broadband) It works quite well and cost me a total of $400 including my electrician running wires with me. It is commercial free (every now and again there is a AOL ad) but over 200 stations to choose from. The only issue with it is that every 5ish hours I have to change stations because it will stop and ask if you want to continue listening.. (make sure to block all sounds in a dummy acct also) Since I am based in Va where AOL is based I had them send me some free AOL 9.0 CD's to have for clients so it looks like we are in a partnership with them. LOL! |

Thanks Jeff... interesting suggestion, but I'm an anti-AOL guy. I had one of my girls download AOL IM and the very next day my computer crashed hard (to the point we had to go manual mode). Same thing with my home computer, I erase AOL and it works great... my kid installs AOL and it comes to a grinding halt. I'm a firm believer AOL is spying and bogging down my computers. I told my staff (after spending 5-hours) getting the computer back online that if anyone downloads AOL or even goes online, they will be fired instantly. The computer is for business only.
I agree Sirius is a wicked pain in the A$$! For a company that spent $500 million for Howard Stern and needs to increase their user base... I thought putting 10-units in one account and exposing thousands of cusomters a year to their services would be a slam dunk... but they need to get the act together and help provide viable cost effective solutions for businesses like ours. Hopefully someone here will have a creative solution for Sirius... I'm still dealing with the folks at radio shack, but they have limited knowledge. |

The reason you as a business are paying a higher fee is because of the ASCAP fees for entertainment. I tried everything with both them and XM ( I live practically next door to their headquarters in D.C.) and no budge. Just do the same hook up to one Sirius and have the same station to all rooms, instead of having a choice. It is better from a business like ours anyway, because if you have tons of selections it keeps them in the rooms longer and they will complain that the bed started and they were still choosing a station. Just my opinion.

True... much like cable, 100 stations and nothing on.
In such a competitive market... I'm trying to offer more variety and flexiblity to our clients, to 1-up the competition... and besides I want the use of a "free/write off" subscription for our cars. We are so flexible that we bend over backwards for our clients (even the pain in the a$$es) and realize the importance of maintaining our clients and their repeat business. I just don't understand how these big companies don't care about the little guys... they are to worried about signing up with GM or the NFL, rather than help my 10-unit salon. |

Engfant, Hence the reason I haven't spent a dime yet... right now we have individual CD radios in each room, but I wanted to offer more and also charge a few quarters more per tan to offset the cost. Up the prices, but offer more.
I just don't want a one station salon... Ideally I would have the master control center at the counter. They tell me what station, I turn the dial and that's what they listen to for 20-minutes. I also want those speaker pillows... headphones in a salon is somewhat gross. |

This is YOUR salon. NAME ONE PLACE that lets you choose the music? NO ONE. If people like your place there is a good chance they'll like your music selection too. I listen to everything from the 80s era and the people love it. From classic rock to classic hip hop, top 40, Shade45. JK, watch out for RadioShack's cheapness. I've had things burn up on me due to their cheap *** parts. |

My amplified ceiling speakers that are mounted in the wall were only $11 each and the ones in the Sunstorms were Cost were more like $200 because I had my electrican run all of the wires in the wall and I gave him $200 for doing it so I didn't have to have the hassle. I already had the head unit at my house. I use the Pop Mix on AOL and sometimes Top Pop. I don't even have to pay for service because it uses my AOL account that I have had for years.
