I just started tanning today, and I have some important questions and concerns.
I went in to tan and they told me to wear the goggles. Do I have to wear them, because they leave circles around my eyes. As the day has gone by... I have become red. Is it normal for it to turn red? Will it turn into a tan, or will it just remain red like a sun burn? How often should I go? Should I go every day and just tan for 10 minutes? Because if it's going to stay red, I don't want to go and make it even redder. Which is better: to tan in the bed, or to tan in the stand up? *I'm just really confused and concerned. Could somebody explain all this to me? |

No closing eyes won't work because the eyelids are very thin and you can cause permanent eye damage. Wear your goggles or sunglobes or winkease. It isn't worth risking your future eye sight.
If you are red, do not tan until the redness is all gone. Next time do not stay in the bed as long. A burn is NEVER good! Go slow and build your base tan. |

ok... I woke up today and I'm not really red anymore. It looks more like a light tan. And it never hurt, so I was never in any pain or anything. But if almost all of the redness is gone, it would be ok for me to go back tomorrow and do 10 minutes, right?

I'd cut the time back by a min or so to make sure you don't get ANY redness. Once you do a session and see no redness then jump your time up by a min or two until you reach the max on the bed. Then try some of their upgrade equipment. Make sure you use lotion while you are tanning and an after care product to moisturize your skin after.

Perhaps that is why they are asking here?
Always wear the goggles. If you are worried about the tanlines or racoon eyes associated with using them, simply move them around several times during you session so that are not always in the same spot, just make sure no light comes through. The redness could merely be "heat flush" if it did not last too long. Did your salon have you fill out a skin type analysis? So many questions to ask you....... so little time. |

Always wear eye protection. Closing your eyes will only stop about 25% of the UV. Even when you're out in the sun you should always wear UV blocking sun glasses. The only person who can really answer the time exposure question is your trained salon owner who can see your skin type. Always tan in moderation. NEVER allow yourself to burn in a tanning salon or out in the sun. "Moderation" is the operative word.
