Ok now that we figured that out....ok I don't want to tan all year round...firstly too expensive for me, second Im going to give it a break over the winter months because everybody just sees my face anyway. Ok so that means I want a tan for june, july, aug,sept...should I start tanning in may? The tanning salon owners know very little here so Im relying on others info. What about the sweedish beauty line? anything that is really good that I can buy online?

We salon owners love summer tanners, wish I had more of them. Swedish Beauty products would not be my first choice, but if that is what you have to choice from? And I'm not an expert on them, I have never carried them. PM COCONUT, she loves them. She can guide you better than I can.

Hi, I just tanned yesterday in a bed for the first time. I bought a cheaper lotion because most of the other lotions suggested for me were about $60. I found some of those on the internet when i came home for a huge discount. I know want to know what is the BEST lotion for someone with fair skin and freckles. I don't think I'm a type one because over time I do develope a tan outdoors. Is Bronze Bondage by Designer Skin any good? Thanks

CaraYeo -

First, you may be under the misimpression that tanning is a 'quick' process from what you think you've seen your Mom or others do. It isn't. Plan on about 10 tans to get a "base" tan (not a deep, dark, most you could ever get tan - a BASE tan). That would be going every 2-3 days and building up your time slowly. If you only go once a week, you'll be losing most of it before you get a chance to move it forward and you'll mostly just stay in the same spot.

Tanning beds - any "can" work. Some may work better than others for you. If possible, try to find a salon that has a high pressure tanning bed - preferably not 99.9% UVA but more of a "hybrid" High Pressure. The "Matrix" (a bed made by Iso Italia and imported by Tan America) would be a good example of this. Could try contacting them and seeing if they have any in your area. Or areas you travel to.

High pressure tanning bulbs are "square" - not the tube lamps (some salons mistakingly call their beds "high pressure" when they maybe just have a couple over the face area only - there IS a big difference!). Sometimes you have to lie on a "mattress" and then flip over to the other side. These give you a LOT of the tanning ray with a LITTLE of the burning ray - so quicker "results" - and longer lasting.

For an "immediate" result, some like to do the "double dip" or "cocktail" where they tan in a high pressure bed and then do a UV spray. Good to give you some motivation while you are working on building your 'real' tan underneath slowly and safely!

But in general - yes, you DO have a 'level you can get to and that's it". People can get tan "for them" - but not everyone can get the same amount of tan, no matter what you do!!

Lotions? I like Halo by Designer Skin as a double bronzer (the "fake" that washes off as well as the DHA sunless bronzer) which also has a UVB (burning ray) inhibitor. Like Matahari Dark & Sexy Legs. Some like Swedish Beauty's "Dangerously Dark" - I've never used it.

As for freckles, my clients say that REGULAR use of lemon juice (on a cotton ball, rubbed over them) can help minimize them. Sounds like a wive's tale to me, but possible. Tanning will bring them out for sure - it is a defense mechanism of the body.

High pressure is the answer! I have an employee with the same problems and she is finally getting a nice tan. She has been tanning for about a month in our high pressure, she has never burned and is getting great color. She is using Ray of Light from DS. It is very important to be consistant! She tans every other day.

Hi!! well my husband has the same type of skin, he is very hard to tan and does not burn, he started out with an accelerator now he is using bronzers he does have a tan, not a really dark one but for him its dark. my daughter bless her heart has inherited his skin and she is so fair, she looks almost albino. you just have to be patient you will tan but it will take a little while, some people can tan 3 times and be black it might take you a month. just keep at it, use a good accelerator with bronzer or tingle is you can stand it, and MOISTURIZE!!!! moist skin will tan the best!!! good luck!!!

Ok, this is what I have to contribute to your tanning plight. You need to start out slow (in terms of how many minutes you are tanning) Use a GGGOOODDDD lotion...I am gonna say TAO (or as sunsally suggested Ray of Light--DS ROCKS!)..*dual bronzers* (the dual is the DHA-- thanks NEON BEach for educating me on that) and tan at least 3 times a week...once you get some base tan development you should be able to tan in an Upgrade bed (at least in my salon) like once a week to maintain your base. The Double Dip is a fabulous concept that I am incorporating in to my new Salon....there won't be any reason for clients to run half naked across hallways with a whole Double Dip Room for the clients to experience..D*mn I Luv the Mystic Tan!
